I challenge the categorisation of Otto Dix as an 'anti-war painter'. The term 'Neue Sachlichkeit' is translated into 'New Objectivity' and in my opinion again does not qualify a political categorisation as 'anti-war'.

Dix: "[...] to see things as they are, that is the condition for a true realism. Indignation, protest, cannot be painted. One has to be able to say Yes, Yes to the human expressions that are there and always will be there, that doesn't mean yes to imperialist wars, but to a destiny, which approaches man under certain circumstances and in which he has to prove himself. The extraordinary situations show man in full greatness, but also in his despiccableness. In the extraordinary situations man appears in all his possibilities."

[Dix in conversation with Fritz Löffler, 1957; quoted from Dieter Schmidt, Otto Dix im Selbstbildnis, Berlin (East) Henschel, 1981, p. 225]

Rather I would attest him a strong will to truth without bias, including war, murder, whatever is deemed "ugly". Maybe an 'anti-bourgeois' painter, as he himself came from a workers-family and always stood by his heritage, also against colleagues, distancing himself from any kind of 'high culture' or censorship.

What is with the painting of Sylvia von Harden? This is an article on Otto Dix! a picture of OTT DIX should be in that box. any article of any person, there would be a picture of the person there. so why is there a portrait on SOMEONE ELSE on this page? the portrait should be moved down the article with his other painting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 153.106.4.94 (talk) 14:24, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
