Having discovered he survived a training plane crash within my native English county, thanks to a book documenting military aviation accidents in 20th century Shropshire, I have added details on his military service (Royal Norwegian Air Force, under RAF command) and also his decorations, sourced from a Norwegian website. I suspect my information is not entirely complete, as while I know he was a Sergeant at time of his training accident in 1943 he must have been ultimately commissioned as an officer because he won the Distinguished Flying Cross awarded by the UK government. There is a decoration mentioned on the website I do not know how to translate, awarded 1990, titled Kommendorstecknet av Kungl. Nordstjarneorden forsta klass (I am sure last two words mean "1st Class" of the order.Cloptonson (talk) 22:22, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Answering own question I have found the order I was asking about under the article in English on the Order of the Northern Star of Sweden. I also discovered in his Norwegian Wikipedia article that he apparently rose to a Lieutenant in his air force career.Cloptonson (talk) 08:27, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
