American and British Titles

I added American titles to Preminger's Filmography; furthermore, I listed them before their corresponding British titles because Preminger lived most of his life and directed most of his films in the United States. I respect Wikipedia contributions from editors outside the United States, but I think that the American titles should be listed first in this case. Then again, I am not an expert on movies or on Preminger, so I might be wrong in my assumptions. If I am wrong, feel free to put the British titles before the American titles. Either way, both should be listed somewhere since all English-language users use the same Wikipedia. Other alternative titles (Canadian, Australian, etc.) should also be added if they exist. --TantalumTelluride 03:57, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

Otto Preminger, the real man.

You may praise this man if you like. However, I am one of his illegitimate sons. He was a womanizer who abandoned his children as convenient.

I was raised mainly in Los Angeles Foster Care.

Suffering, I managed to emancipate myself on my 15th birthday. I was able to find a full time job as a bus boy. I rented a room eight miles from the home of my alcoholic foster parents.

I didn't even know who my father was until I was 17.

Strangely, as a child, I had always felt that I was Jewish. But after I met my father, I simply felt ashamed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.150.208.213 (talk) 09:05, 18 December 2006 (UTC).

Tone

This entire article suffers from a lack of verifiable references and the tone is chatty and memoir-like. It therefore in my humble opinion qualifies for a cleanup header.Tomwhite56 (talk) 16:44, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Preminger as independent producer

The article ignores the fact that Preminger left the studio system at sometime in the mid- or early-1950s, and became an independent producer, one of the first to do so, and a harbinger of things to come, as the studio system slowly died. In several films, for example, The Man With the Golden Arm, Preminger defied the Production Code, and successfully marketed his films without their seal of approval. While giving us more detail than we need on Preminger's early years, and on forgettable studio projects, the article neglects the truly historic role Preminger played in getting ride of the Production Code. It also is too close to its subject; as one other poster has noted, the tone is too chatty and confidential, and neglects an overall appraisal of Preminger as a director. In truth, he was pedestrian at best, and substituted shock value (i.e., breaking the Production Code) for aesthetic value. Few of his films have much in the way of artistic merit, but several from his years as an independent broke new ground in subject matter, something which better directors were not slow to exploit. It needs trimming, and the end portion, covering his severing of his ties with the studio and branching out as an independent, needs much more work.

anti-Semitic and pro-German

"Graz ... a notoriously anti-Semitic and pro-German Austrian city"

Could someone please explain the intention of "pro-German" in this phrase !?! Which sense of "German" is meant? Towards the German empire or towards the German population of Austria?

And why is Graz supposed to be more anti-semitic than the rest of Austria-Hungary at the time? --Popolfi (talk) 11:03, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Which is the correct birthdate?

The intro and info box post his birth year as 1906, but the photo of his mausoleum niche shows the year as 1905. They cannot both be correct. 98.211.124.111 (talk) 18:35, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Grudge? or Forgiveness?

Article currently reads: "Zanuck returned from the armed services with his grudge against Preminger remaining. Although Preminger had been forgiven by Zanuck ..."

This strikes me as inconsistent. Zanuck's grudge against Preminger is remaining -- yet Preminger had been forgiven by Zanuck. Which is it? Grudge remaining, or forgiveness?
