List of environmental universities and colleges[edit]

I have been considering moving the items listed under the heading "Educational institutions" to a new page having the title "List of environmental universities and colleges" and similar to "List of agricultural universities and colleges". -- Wavelength (talk) 17:11, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recently came across this old note. In general a good idea, I think. A related article-naming challenge is that the current section includes a variety of types of institutions, ranging from universities and colleges, to schools, institutes and centers. Would "List of environmental studies institutions" be a better article name? Any other thoughts on proceeding with this suggestion? Regards, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 10:32, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest the title "List of environmental education institutions", to avoid a plural noun in a noun adjunct. For the same reason, I suggest moving "List of environmental studies topics" to "List of environmental education topics".

Thanks for your reply. Environmental studies is one particular type of environmental education, however; so using the latter name would open it up a lot. Many educational institutions today engage in some type of environmental education. Given its particular meaning, I would suggest starting with the narrower term, environmental studies, the plural noun notwithstanding. I'll have to ponder further about the optimal name for the present article. Kind regards, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 11:43, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Going to Lists of universities and colleges#Subject of study, the naming format that perhaps makes the most sense here to me is List of institutions granting degrees in environmental studies. It is rather long, but precise. Thanks, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 11:43, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Still pondering the best name for this article. Kind regards, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 11:45, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

As a first step, perhaps I'll try to break out the present section of this article into categories. Looking there again, I see a variety of institutions, not all of which are degree-granting... Regards, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 11:49, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Done. This helps clarify to me the types of institutions currently included in this article. Next steps? Kind regards, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 12:25, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It looks to me like we have three possible spin-off articles:

Have merged the section on Research institutes into the article, List of environment research institutes. The next step there, I think, is organizing the list by country. Next: Are we ready to go ahead and spin off a List of institutions granting degrees in environmental studies? That list too, should be organized by country, I think. Thanks, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 12:35, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thought of an alternative spin-off article name: List of environmental degree-granting institutions. Given the broad variety of environmental degrees offered, this could serve as a more integrated listing. If it got too large, it could be subdivided into lists of institutions granting degrees in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, etc. Better? Regards, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 14:05, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
New article, List of environmental degree-granting institutions, spun off from section of this article. Thanks, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 22:28, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The two external links to this article fit better there, too. Regards, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 02:17, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article lead[edit]

Would be useful, I think, to briefly elaborate the lead of this article, explaining its purpose/ focus/ scope. Thanks, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 02:56, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'd like to suggest spinning off the 'Degrees' section of this article into its own, new article, List of environmental degrees. The topic would best be further developed in a new article of its own, I think. Thoughts? suggestions? Thanks, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 15:06, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I support this proposal, and I have watchlisted the proposed article.

I've put a beginning version of such an article up at User:DASonnenfeld/sandbox 2. Comments, suggestions welcome, either here or on my talk page. Thanks, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 15:50, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Done. (Please direct any comments or suggestions for the spun-off article to that article's talk page. Thanks.) DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 14:32, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
