Style -> stubbify

[edit]

Reading this article, I was struck by the unusual writing style, and googled for the first sentence of the article. I found that most of the article was lifted from the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody. This is a publication of the Australian government, and I have no idea what its status is with respect to copyright. I suspect it might be in the public domain, but I don't know this. In either case, Outstation movement should either cite its sources, or be rewritten so it's not a direct lift from the commission report. --Skud 00:52, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Here's the copyright notice from the front of the Royal Commission Report (http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/special/rsjproject/rsjlibrary/rciadic/national/vol3/1.html): "This work is copyright. Apart from any use as permitted under the Copyright Act 1968, no part may be reproduced by any process without written permission from the Australian Government Publishing Service. Requests and inquiries concerning reproduction and rights should be addressed to the Manager, AGPS Press, GPO Box 84, Canberra ACT 2601." --Skud 01:01, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Have started a REALLY rough stub of a new article at Outstation_movement/Temp. --Skud 01:07, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NT Emergency Response

[edit]

This article is relevant to the Northern Territory National Emergency Response - considerable expansion is required. Paul foord (talk) 10:21, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge discussion

[edit]

I've suggested a merge from Outstation based on the fact that there's apparently very little of interest to say about such a building and it's unlikely to grow beyond its present size, so can be absorbed into this one - which could do with more expansion, judging by what a quick Google shows. Most importantly though, editors linking to the word "outstation" can then be sure of linking to the right article. Looking at the current links to the Outstation article, most should refer to this one's concept. Alternatively, merge this one into that one and just use the one-word title. p.s. There is the also UK usage to consider (see hatnote), although that seems to be rather a specialised term, so not sure whether this warrants a DAB page. Either way, those links need to be looked at and fixed unless some change is made. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 03:39, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'd never heard that definition of outstation until I read the article. From my experience "Outstations" are remote facilities that may serve one or more purposes - communications etc. --AussieLegend () 16:17, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, AussieLegend. I've just got back to this and am spending some time hunting down sources, sorting out the terminology and adding bits and pieces (including to the bus station and cattle station articles) before coming to any further conclusions about article naming and/or merging. It will take a few days yet, I think. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 11:03, 2 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm still confused. When I was living in the NT we referred to "Aboriginal communities", never "outstations". --AussieLegend () 12:05, 2 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There seem to be lots of different usages in different places and contexts. After giving it some thought, decided that the best way to go is a DAB page, and renaming of this one. I still need to move all of those links now pointing to the DAB page, and improve this one. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 08:20, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
