The result of the proposal was no consensus. --BDD (talk) 17:03, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Overall (disambiguation)Overall – At present, "overall" redirects to one of the meanings of this word, but it is a word with many meanings. The disambiguation page should be there, as has also been stated in edit summaries of that page. Relisted. BDD (talk) 17:28, 11 June 2013 (UTC) Cecil Huber (talk) 16:59, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. I reverted the proposer's recent move pending this RM, and otherwise the stable arrangement appears to correctly reflect the primary topic. -- JHunterJ (talk) 12:37, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • What stable arrangement? As far as I could see on the talkpage, overall had been up for splitting the article or something for years, which I did. Thanks for partly undoing my work. :'( — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cecil Huber (talkcontribs) 00:07, 30 May 2013‎ (UTC)[reply]
The stable arrangement prior to your move. Rumblings of splitting an article is not consensus for moving the article. You're welcome for cleaning up the WP:MALPLACED or WP:PRECISION problem. :-D -- JHunterJ (talk) 00:17, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
      • I would add that the proposed split at Talk:Overall is not into different articles under the name, "overall", but into different articles of clothing with different names. There is no dispute on that talk page as to whether the basic article of clothing comprising pants with straps coming up over the shoulders are overalls, or whether this article of clothing is the primary topic of the term as against the rare surname or the little-known place name. bd2412 T 03:36, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
        • If you say so, I think you haven't read the talkpage properly. Look at these quotes from the page:

Here in England "overall" can mean "boilersuit"

— Anthony Appleyard (talk) 15:47, 12 January 2010

In American English, "overall" can refer to either a jumpsuit or a bib overall. It is a disambiguation problem. ...

... In the UK you are unlikely to hear anyone talking about a 'coverall' when they mean 'overall' (although we are clearly talking about the same thing)...

My point, however, is that there is no proposition to have an article titled Overall (United States) and another titled Overall (United Kingdom), nor to have an Overall (bib-and-brace), and an Overall (coverall). Every proposition that has been made would have one article titled Overall, and another article with a different title (Coverall, Boilersuit) regarding articles of clothing that might be called an "overall" elsewhere. bd2412 T 14:10, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think anyone has suggested anything like Overall (United States) and Overall (United Kingdom). When you write "elsewhere", you mean the US and England, I gather, since overall can mean a coverall/boilersuit in both these countries (even if I think it is more common in both these countries that it refers to the bib-and-brace overall)? So, from what perspective do you see things? Cecil Huber (talk) 22:13, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment why would anyone use " Overall (bib-and-brace) " as the title for this article? -- 65.94.79.6 (talk) 04:07, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Initially I was going to oppose, as the most common usage is indeed an article of clothing, but when I read the article I decided to change my mind, as this is only about one of the three different types of clothing that can be described as an overall. In North America it may be normal to describe this as an overall; in Britain this would usually be described as dungarees and "overall" would refer to the other two types of clothing described in the hatnote. It is not therefore to my mind a primary topic. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:04, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • By this reasoning, however, the primary topic of the term is still clothing - the article can be revised to discuss the different articles of clothing that can be called an overall without suggesting that the term is ambiguous to rare place names and personal names. bd2412 T 14:52, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
      • The primary meaning is clothing, but not this specific type of clothing. The other types of clothing called overalls are covered by different articles, so should not be factored into this one. It is therefore better to rename this article and move the disambiguation article. -- Necrothesp (talk) 17:37, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Even if Overall ends up being renamed or merged into some other article, it would still be the primary topic of "Overall". —Xezbeth (talk) 14:57, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
