Oxonians (category)

[edit]

I'm sorry the category Oxonians was changed to "People from Oxford", since an Oxonian usually means a member of the University of Oxford rather than a person from Oxford. This is like changing "Etonians" to "People from Eton": most people from Eton are not what virtually everybody understands by the term "Etonian". I think "Oxonian" can mean either of the city or of the university, but "People from Oxford" doesn't have those two meanings: it only means people who have some connection with the city by means of birth, residence, etc. I would say that I am an Oxonian because I am a member of the university, but I wouldn't say that I am a person from Oxford, because I was born, and now live permanently, in London.--212.219.238.130 18:12, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
