The full name of this convention is: "Convention drawn up on the basis of Article K.3 of the Treaty on European Union, on the protection of the European Communities' financial interests", while its shortened version is "Convention on the protection of the European Communities' financial interests". The rather uninformative name "PFI Convention" is the abbreviated form of the name generally used after the convention has been introduced by its shortened title. One of the criteria for article titles is that they be a commonly recognizable name, in addition to them being both precise and concise. The acronym PFI has multiple meanings, including "Property For Industry", "Process Forwarding International", "Payment-Card Industry(PCI) - PCI Forensic Investigator", "Private Finance Initiatives", and even the "Pellet Fuel Industry" or "Pacific Friendly Islands (PFI INC)" who have both held conventions. Also, some sources refer to this convention by using the French title, which becomes PIF Convention and is how the article was originally named, after the French phrase "Protection des Intérêts Financiers". While "PFI" might be recognizable to those readers who are well informed on the subject of EU financial law, most Wikipedia readers are not. Editors should assume that Wikipedia readers know nothing about a topic and the article title should give them enough clues to have an inkling about the topic an article covers. The acronym should be spelled out, at least, to render something like "EU Protection of Financial Interests Convention", if the full or shorter names are not used as article titles. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 02:31, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
