Phonology[edit]

Dispute over name of external link[edit]

What should the name of the external link at the bottom for the music video be?

The reason I went against option 6 is that the video is not labeled as such on the YouTube itself. It does not say PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen Official) and it does not spell out "PIKOTARO(ピコ太郎)". Note that the in-video name is just "ペンパイナッポーアッポーペン" with subtitle "Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen"

I'm not quite sure which video you were viewing, but the title on the one linked above (which correctly is the original) specifically says "PPAP（Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen Official）ペンパイナッポーアッポーペン／PIKOTARO(ピコ太郎)", copied 1:1. This usually how you handle external links (other than the official website which simply says "Official website"), and therefore should also apply here. Hence, option 6 is the most valid, if we were to chose from the other, cross out the first two: On the first, "Video" is not a qualifier and does no good to a reader; on the second, Simply appending "/[artist]" is not the way music video titles are handeled, especially not on Wikipedia. The fourth does not apply as it lacks the "on YouTube", which is appended automaticly through the {{YouTube}} template. Other than that I would agree on option 3 or 5 as well, but still consider 6 to be the most accurate. (P.S.: I refined a few options for a better view.) Do not strike out the options. They are still valid options. Your YouTube setup must be different from mine, perhaps it is your browser or computer that shows links differently? I've checked two browsers on mine and they both show option 2. I would agree on option 3 and 5, and am adding option 7 (no external link as it's in infobox). Option 8 is just the song title and the "on YouTube"; that would work as well. As you can tell, there is no standard on any of the titles. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 12:36, 24 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at List of most viewed YouTube videos for some of the top music videos:

Truly, it is quite confusing, as there is no strict guideline on this. Also, should we consider WP:YOUTUBE? PPAP copied videos and view counts[edit]

It looks like a copied version of the video is grabbing more views than the official one and has over 150 million views. Justin Bieber's tweet also points to a copied version. [1] Per WP:YT, links to copyright violations are not allowed. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 19:16, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
