2013.02.01 - FULL DISCLOSURE: I am a PTC employee. I have noticed some things are incorrect or out of date on the page. I am proposing some changes here on this talk page. I openly invite others to review what's here and co-edit into something that can be viewed as neutral. My aim is to represent PTC in an accurate and objective light.

Here is a proposal for the overall summary:

PTC is a U.S.-based company that develops, markets and supports software used by manufacturing companies to create and service their products. Founded in 1985, PTC employs over 6,000 professionals serving more than 27,000 businesses. Its main solutions are for computer-aided design (CAD) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAD, application lifecycle management (ALM), product lifecycle management (PLM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Product_lifecycle_management, supply chain management (SCM) and service lifecycle management (SLM). Its customers include globally distributed manufacturing companies in a range of vertical markets, including Industrial Equipment, Aerospace & Defense, Electronics & High Tech, Automotive, Medical Device and Retail & Consumer. PTC is listed on the NASDAQ as PMTC. The company is included in the S&P Midcap 400 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%26P_400 as well as the Russell 2000 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell_2000 index. Its tagline is "Product and Service Advantage"

Here are some proposed changes for the sidebar:

The industries PTC participates in are CAD/ALM/PLM/SCM/SLM software PTC has specific products, but I am not listing them so as to not appear 'market-y'. Instead, I am listing the products that pertain to the overall industries (CAD/ALM/PLM/SCM/SLM), and am suggesting a link to the overall product page (http://www.ptc.com/products/)

Revenue: $1,260 million USD (2012) Employees: 6,000 (2013)

Key people: James. E. (Jim) Heppelmann, Jeffrey D. Glidden, Barry F. Cohen, Ph.D., Aaron C. von Staats [all found http://www.ptc.com/company/executive-team.htm]

I revised the opening section to sound less market-y. Hopefully it conveys the points that [a] PTC was formed around the success and adoption of (then) Pro/ENGINEER, [b] Windchill is PTC's CAD data management solution, and [c] together, these and other software offerings PTC has comprise a collective tool set known as PTC's Product Development System. -- via abelniak (PTC employee)

2010.12.22 - If no objections, I'll remove the "non-neutral POV" flag, since there haven't been any major edits of my edits to make this sound less markety-y. I'm clearly open to working through this. -abelniak (Abelniak (talk) 15:32, 22 December 2010 (UTC))

I added the {{POV}} tag to the top of the page. The intro is particularly egregious. It is basically all content-free marketing buzzwords that must have come from the company website:

The Product Development Company®, develops, markets and supports product development software solutions and related services that help companies achieve their product development strategies and optimize their processes. Using the company’s tightly integrated engineering CAD/CAM and enterprise Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, organizations are better able to create and manage product information throughout the lifecycle for optimal product development success.

I don't even really know what that means! —Ben FrantzDale (talk) 16:54, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

I've demarketingized the opening paragraph a bit. It could use some polishing, and there are still other bits of the article that look like they're lightly paraphrased from PTC's marketing materials. Gareth McCaughan (talk) 16:53, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

I removed the bit Using the software in such a manner helps customers use the total functionality of the products. Ideal outcomes are optimized product development strategies and processes. It sounded to me like meaningless puffery. The bit Another hallmark in PTC's software history was the release of a pure Internet architecture solution for product data management... is also in desperate need of rewording for neutrality. I'd try to rephrase it, but the text gives me nothing to go on to understand whatever this might tangibly consist of. - Smerdis of Tlön - killing the human spirit since 2003! 05:01, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
