A fact from Page playoff system appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 27 March 2006. The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that in the 26 uses of the Page playoff system in championship curling tournaments, only once has a third- or fourth-placed team won the tournament?
The article should include information on where the name "Page" comes from. I also find it hard to believe that a simple system like this hasn't been used in other professional sports around the world before curling adopted it. The history section makes it sound like nobody had thought of it before 1996. (Maybe that's true, but if so it would be worth mentioning explicity!) Any other examples of its use would be worth including. -dmmaus22:30, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Victorian Football League History
1931
The K.G. McIntyre Final Four system introduced for finals.
System saw 3rd vs 4th in 1st Semi with the loser omitted.
1st vs 2nd in the 2nd Semi Final, winner to go straight to Grand Final
The Preliminary Final saw the winner of the 1st Semi against the loser of the 2nd Semi with the loser being omitted.
The Grand Final was then played between the winner of the 2nd Semi and the winner of the Preliminary Final.
