Unimpressed with the production

[edit]

Having discovered "Boondocks" on Youtube (an infectious, well-crafted song with both bluegrass and sixties' influences), I gave this album a try. Hoo, boy.

Like many modern albums, Pain Killer is a victim of the loudness wars. It was so loud, I had to take my headphones off. Allmusic said, "Coming after the sweet, shiny Tornado, the restless over-saturation in Killer is something of a shock," though they gave it 4 1/2 stars anyway, a rating usually reserved for legendary heavyweights like Fleetwood Mac's Rumours album.

Are the record companies ever going to stop destroying music? And they wonder why they can't sell albums. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 100.32.118.122 (talkcontribs) 01:04, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"they gave it 4 1/2 stars anyway, a rating usually reserved for legendary heavyweights like Fleetwood Mac's Rumours album"... it should be noted that this doesn't mean they rate it the same as Rumours. AllMusic's rating system is only relative to other records by the same group... it can't be used to rate the album relative to records by any other artist.
