SIA vs. DAB, other[edit]

Current list/disambiguation page omits Palace Theatre (Georgetown, Texas) and perhaps others. Needs to be identified as a combo dab covering the places named Palace Theater and Palace Theatre. These are all basically unrelated to each other, as far as I know. See discussion at Talk:Palace Hotel about use of SIA vs. DAB. --Doncram (talk) 02:21, 9 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Far from being unrelated, Theatre and Theater are simply spelling variations of the same word. There is no difference in meaning between them. Many venues have used both spellings on and off over their histories. And why not just add the article you found to be missing to the disambiguation page yourself? I was noting the one item here so that it does not get forgotten if/when this page is edited back to last revision as a disambiguation page, which is what it should be. --Doncram (talk) 14:07, 9 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think what user:Doncram meant was the individual theatres are not related to each other, perhaps by being part of the same company, in the context of the discussion at Talk:Palace Hotel that Doncram cites. I have added the missing entry. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 11:55, 9 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
In general, the items are not related to each other, and disambiguation is needed. I think we do not want to have a SIA / list-article. About any few redlink items that do not comply with disambiguation page guidelines, if you want to keep them on the dab page then you can make them comply with wp:DABRL, or let them be deleted. --Doncram (talk) 14:07, 9 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

redlink items[edit]

I copied/removed the following three items from the page. These don't comply with wp:DABRL requirements for items in disambiguation pages. I move them to here for possible "rescue".

Any one could be "rescued" by either someone creating a separate article for it (which requires sources, defense of its notability, etc.) or by adding an appropriate redlink to a sensible page, perhaps a page like History of Montreal or List of theatres in Canada, presumably also requiring source(s) to support the item. Then that page could be used as the supporting bluelink per wp:DABRL.

It is my current understanding that there is agreement this Palace Theatre page should be returned to being a disambiguation page, after this. The editor who chose to try to convert it to a SIA page did so to save these redlinks, as far as I understand. However, it is not appropriate for it to be a SIA; the items are basically unrelated and any development of list-articles about theatres is better invested in list-articles organized geographically or otherwise. --Doncram (talk) 14:51, 9 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I get it now. I agree it should return to being a DAB page and should be edited to meet those criteria. Should it be reverted to the edit of 11/1/17 and also remove the red links? Thanks Markhh (talk) 21:05, 9 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, basically, that's what I think should be done. With caveat that perhaps the redlink items removed should be moved to here, for possible rescue. It appears that Frostburg Palace Theatre might be supported, as [1] shows it is linked from another article. Your commenting at Talk:Palace Hotel would be appreciated too. Perhaps a couple editors will make a small but adequate quorum for returning several now-SIAs back to DABs. --Doncram (talk) 22:18, 9 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Doncram: You are not improving this article. The first redlink you removed above is actually a valid disambiguation page entry: it does not contravene MOS:DABRL. If you're going to continue to fix something that isn't broken please put more thought into it, as I did when I converted the dab page to an SIA in order to preserve the redlinks someone put there in good faith. User:Shhhnotsoloud: Question: did you know that a supporting blue link page must include the red link there, used in appropriate context? Robillard Block does not mention any Palace place. —Doncram (talk) 15:41, 10 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You're right, the redlink doesn't appear. But a mention does, so I've reinstated a modified entry. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 08:53, 14 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
