[edit]I've added cites from the New York Times, the Independent (London), and the Minneapolis Post, and deleted the refimprove tag. I would argue that these also address the notability tag. As for the tone and peacock tags, I can only see one line that might be interpreted as anything other than straight biographical fact: the quote from the music producer, Garry Schyman. It is certainly complimentary to Siddique, and yet it represents Schyman's on-the-record assessment to a journalist of her performance during the studio session that would make her famous. Therefore, I assess it as a valuable piece of her story. PRRfan (talk) 04:03, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
- Seeing no dissent, I've removed the tags. PRRfan (talk) 20:59, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
WP:MUSICBIO has several criteria, and the only one that this article has a chance of meeting is the first one:
- Has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician or ensemble itself and reliable.
As it is, however, of the four references currently in the article, two are local to her, and the other two do not contain enough information to locate the actual articles. So, really, as far as reliable sources go, you've got two from local newspapers, and that does not establish notability. It also leaves the article begging for improved references. Thus, I'll be retagging, if not AFDing. لennavecia 12:55, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
- Luckily for me, there is this thing called Google that readily revealed URLs for the New York Times and London Independent articles, so I've added those. PRRfan (talk) 13:24, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, good thing you found that thing. لennavecia 16:52, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
Some comments on the references:
- The NYT article has a mere 1 sentence fragment mentioning the subject. Rather, the article was focused more on Matt. So, that cannot at all be considered as any significant coverage of the subject.
- I cannot verify the article from the Independent. From the title, it appears to be focused on Matt rather than the subject. I suspect that, just as the NYT article, the subject was trivially mentioned in that article as well. Please correct me if I am mistaken.
- The rest of the coverage are from local TV stations and local newspapers. As Jennavecia mentions above, such coverage hardly establishes notability.
- The subject is not at all notable in Bangladeshi media. The 2008 article from her local newspaper comments of her participation in the Bangladeshi version of Idol, but she never made it to the top rounds.
I'll wait for PRRfan to respond to the above comments, but unless proof of significant media coverage is presented, I am going to re-tag the article for notability. --Ragib (talk) 20:09, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
- The Independent article appears to have been moved; I Googled "The Independent" and "Palbasha Siddique," found the URL, and fixed the link. But as to your main point, I think she's notable as part of what has been called the Internet's most popular video, at least at one time. I'm not saying she's Michael Jackson, but this article has compiled at least a few paragraphs about her and her role in the video. PRRfan (talk) 20:44, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- Well, the video is definitely notable, but I disagree that she's notable just because she sang the background song. The video and its coverage everywhere were almost invariably focused on Matt, the subject, rather than Siddique, the singer. As an example, will you consider the camera operator of the video to be notable too just because he's a part of it? I guess not. --Ragib (talk) 21:24, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- Tell you what: find as many articles that mention the camera operator as Siddique, and I'll concede your point. PRRfan (talk) 04:47, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
Clarification of nationality
[edit]The following was posted at the help desk:
- Hi! There is an error on a page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palbasha_Siddique) on your site. The page says she is an "american singer", when in fact she isn't. She doesn't have an american cititzenship but rather a green card (lawful permanent resident) that is a conditional one. So, more than likely, she will have the green card and not be able to apply for her US citizenship for a while, making her a Bangladeshi passport holder for a while. I did not know how to "edit" that page to reflect that. So, I am letting you guys know so that you can fix it. I know about her immigration status as she is a local person and well known in the local Bangladeshi community and she has talked about it, at some point, with some folks, including a friend of mine.
- So, please update the page, when you get this. Thanks. Sincerely, - RR 66.41.60.223 (talk) 04:20, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Perhaps someone familiar with the subject can help with the correction, if needed.--SPhilbrickT 15:23, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
- Can someone provide a citation for 66.41.60.223's assertion? PRRfan (talk) 15:29, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
