To do[edit]

I have finally got around to creating an article for each of the forts on the island, removing all redlinks on this page, something I have been meaning to do for a while but has been a very time consuming process! Anyway, there are a number of improvements I would now like to make:

  • A map of the island showing the location of each of the forts and batteries.
  • Changing the list to include a table with more information about each of the forts such as construction date, cost etc.
  • I also feel articles such as Bouldnor Battery and Warden Point Battery need work before they are brought up to an acceptable standard.
  • Photos for each location, many are currently listed as photo-less.
  • References and infoboxs added to each article.

If anyone else has any other views, or any objections please do comment! Editor5807speak 20:52, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article for Yarmouth Castle states that it was built in 1547 by Henry VIII, which can be confirmed here. Since the Palmerston Forts were built in the Victorian Era it shouldn't be listed here! I have taken it off for the time being, however if I have made a mistake in this, please feel free to correct me! Editor5807speak 11:10, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Non-Palmerston forts[edit]

This is a good piece of work Editor5807, good job. I've added some details, default organised the layout by date and expanded the Needles battery, as they were two seperate builds. I know what you mean about Yarmuth Castle, being an old Tudor Fort it isn't really a Palmerston - however, it was still in use when the Palmerston Forts were built (wasn't decommissioned until 1901). Technically the same applies to the New Needles Battery and Bouldner Battery as well.... It's a tricky one especially as most sources lump all of them together as generic Palmerston forts. I wonder if it might be worth having a small extra table under the West Wight one for non-Palmerston Fort coastal defences, including Yarmouth, New Needles and Bouldner, to separate the different time frames. Any thoughts? Ranger Steve (talk) 12:28, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
