The claim that no instruments survive to the present day is suspect. This news article (in Finnish), while talking mostly about a newly-found dulcian, also mentions that conservator Aki Arponen of the Finnish National Board of Antiquities recently visited the central storage of the Finnish National Museum and found "a pantalon, a predecessor of the hammerklavier (hammered dulcimer) from around 1750.
