Does the "whole urban area" include Faaa? The Jade Knight 20:24, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it does. The urban area of Papeete includes the communes of Papeete, Faaa, Punaauia, Pirae, Mahina, Paea, and Arue. Hardouin 12:55, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okina

[edit]

To the user who keeps adding the okina sign to this and to other French Polynesia related articles: the French Polynesian languages do not use the Hawaiian okina. The Académie Tahitienne specifically says that they use a variant of the apostrophe:

This is a word with regular apostrophe:

don't

And this is a word with the Tahitian variant of the apostrophe used for glotal stop:

Pape’ete

Compare it with the okina, which you can find here, and you'll see that the Tahitian glotal stop and the Hawaiian okina are two completely different symbols. So please stop "hawaiinizing" the French Polynesian articles. Thank you. Hardouin 15:40, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Excuses, you are right, when I looked more carefully with another font to the article of l’Académie Tahitienne, I saw that they prefer the normal comma rather than the inverted comma. This is not in accordance with general Polynesian use, and not a wise decision to not-distinguish it from the apostrophe, but that is of course to them to decide.
It was, however, never my intention to Hawaiʻianise Tahitian articles. The appearance of the { {okina} } template is only to editors, casual readers never will never see it. I could have made a { {eta} } template for it, if they (ʻokina) had not been first. (Reduced some of your biggies) --Tauʻolunga 22:37, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, but when I look again elsewhere in the same articles, they use the inverted comma too. Better I shall ask them for advice first... --Tauʻolunga 23:01, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone render "Conseil du Scoutisme polynésien" and "Be Prepared", the Scout Motto, into Tahitian? Thanks! Chris 14:48, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User ty

[edit]

I have looked at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Wikipedians_by_language . It would appear that there are no templates like {{User ty}}, {{User ty-3}} for Tahitian. :( Chris 06:53, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Germans bombard Papeete?

[edit]

Why would the Germans bombard Papeete in 1906 when France and Germany were at peace in that year? GeorgeLouis 16:35, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So I looked it up myself and found a bombardment in 1914, not 1906. Am making a change in the article. Sincerely, GeorgeLouis (talk) 00:15, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

History section

[edit]

Does anyone know why the History section was blanked at 05:22, 31 October 2010?
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Papeete&action=historysubmit&diff=393910022&oldid=393909861

I've undone this change by hand, but I don't know if the version I restored is the best.

The following website copied its info from Wikipedia, but at that time the history section of the article was obviously different (e.g. it refers to 1995 airport protest riots):

Why is there zero information about the founding of the settlement in the 19th-century and its status as capital of the Kingdom of Tahiti? KAVEBEAR (talk) 05:59, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
