General anaesthetic
[edit]On the Treatment section, it says "The operation is usually performed under a general anaesthetic." My brother just had that operation and he only got a local anaesthetic, and the doctors told him that's the normal procedure. Maybe there is a new procedure for that operation and the source for the general anaesthetic is outdated. Does anyone knows about it? --ClaudioMB (talk) 23:54, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Usually in the case of hernia, the Dr. would try to put a mesh in place. This allows scar tissue to weave its way in and out and help strengthen the abdominal wall. Most surgeons would perform this under general anesthesia simply because if the patient moves when the doctor isn't expecting it, then a laceration of the bowl may occur. If your brother only had a local block done, then he they probably stitched the whole back together. The issue with this is that tissue becomes cris-crossed and does distribute the stress evenly like normal tissue; therefore, a occurrence is like in active people. 166.137.139.111 (talk) 01:29, 8 March 2015 (UTC) Larry McFarland
