Trivia[edit]

The following is a huge chunk of trivia that was removed from the article back in July. Posting here in case anyone can salvage any of it:

  • Park Shi Yeon has become the new Korean femme fatale from her dangerous charisma that she displayed in the MBC drama "Bittersweet Life" in May to July of 2008, and the movie "Dachimawa Lee," directed by well-known action movie director Ryu Seung-Wan, which opened in theaters August 2008. In the movie, Park Shi Yeon plays a secret agent who fights as the seductive black rose against Dachimawa Lee. The movie is an action comedy that shows a new korean style of the 'Bond girl' through Park Shi Yeon. In addition, towards the latter of 2008, Park Shi Yeon will star alongside Jo Jae-Hyeon and Kim Kang-Woo in the movie "Marine Boy," where she will play the dangerous lady. The movie's setting will be set underwater where the story of drug dealing takes place. Park Shi Yeon takes on the role of a Jazz singer in disguise undertaking a risky illegal drug trade. [1]
  • Growing up as a middle child, Park Shi Yeon (real name Park Mi-Sun) had a shy personality, and so in order to fix her personality her mother gave her vocal music lessons[2] and entered her in the Creative Children Song Competitions (창작동요제) from 1989-1991. In 1990, Park Shi Yeon won 1st place with the song The Day That I Want to Draw (그림 그리고 싶은 날), which has since become a very popular Korean children's song (동요).
  • In May 2005, Park Shi Yeon and Eric Mun (actor and rapper from popular Korean boyband Shinhwa)'s relationship was made public in a statement written by Eric on Shinhwa's official website. Unfortunately, the two have parted in March/April 2007 due to personal differences; however, they have agreed to maintain a good senior/junior relationship (선후배 사이).
  • Due to an injury on the shooting of her drama When Spring Comes (2007), Park Shi Yeon sustained a serious injury that she left untreated [3] which resulted in her face to appear unusually bloated in her Biotherm CF and at the 2007 Baeksang Awards, and not because of claims that she received botox or surgery. She said that the bloating didn't start to subside until 6 months after the injury.
  • In August 2007, a poster on Daum Telzone, one of Korea's most popular community boards, posted about her encounter with Park Shi Yeon at a bookstore that gained a lot of interest from netizens.[4] A rough translation of the post by the girl basically said that she and her friend were at a boookstore, and her friend told her to look over there at that really tall and pretty girl, and so she did and realized it was PARK SHI YEON!! Her friend responded "stupid, you don't think I would know if it's her?" and the girl thought hmm wonder if it is her.. she looked countless times and knew it was indeed Park Shi Yeon. The girl also wrote, "Is it because she was wearing a cap and looking down while she walking? because I dont think anybody else really noticed her except the two of us. I secretly followed her and took pictures. It was so nice seeing her looking at all those books with such interest. To me it looked like she was hardly wearing any makeup. Her skin was so nice~. I'm so jealous of her long legs/ proportional body~ She was walking around by herself for a while. Then all of sudden she just plopped on the floor. I always thought she looked kinda bratty and catty-like but it was just the opposite when I saw her. I wanted to ask her for her signature, but she was really into reading the books that I didn't. I really should have asked her for it though.. I regret it now." (english translation credits to suejinners)
  • Park Shi Yeon's younger sister, Park Min-Ju (박민주), is the CEO of a Korean online Jewelry store, ParkK. Park Shi Yeon helps her sister design and make some of the jewelry, as well as advertise the line; the majority of the jewelry that Park Shi Yeon wears is from ParkK. In addition, the black ring that she wore to the 2007 Blue Dragon Awards (청룡영화제) that gained a lot of interest from Korean netizens was also personally designed and hand-made by Park Shi Yeon.
  • Ha Jung Woo, actor and co-star from movie The Fox Family, stated in an interview in April 2008 to clear up rumours of a possible relationship with Park Shi Yeon, that although it is true that he once had feelings for Park Shi Yeon in the past that it never went beyond a senior/junior relationship, and that they just remain friends.[5]
  • Park Shi Yeon attended high school in the United States, and attended college (St. John's University, New York) as a Broadcasting major before returning to Korea. Starting from Junior High School, she had always wished of studying abroad, but her mother was against her decision because her mother only saw her as a little child and couldn't send her away by herself to study abroad. However, in ninth grade, Park Shi Yeon barely managed to get her parent's approval to come to the States. But then, she found out that she was going to be attending a military academy. Her mother told her that since she grew up nicely/ without any hardships (곱게) in Korea that she should experience some hardships, so she sent her to a military academy in New York. And so, upon coming to the States, she briefly attended a military academy for 6 months before she secretly transferred, without her parents knowledge, to a regular school because of both the difficulty of the military school (waking up at 5 AM, swimming 50 laps every day, etc.) and the difficulty of not being able to converse fluently in English at that time having just come from Korea. But she says that because of that brief experience, she has been able to endure and do difficult action scenes.[2]
  • In 2000, she competed in the Miss Korea Competition, alongside Son Tae Young (wife of actor Kwon Sang Woo) and Kim Sarang who have both also become actresses. Park Shi Yeon remains good friends with Son Tae Young from the competition. During Son Tae Young's appearance on the variety show "Come To Play," she said that whenever Park Shi Yeon and she gets together, they would always speak in their accents (사투리): Son Tae Young in her Daegu accent and Park Shi Yeon in her Busan accent.
  • Park Shi Yeon was one of the bride's mates at Ahn Jung-Hwan (soccer player) and Lee Hye Won's wedding. She is friends with Lee Hye Won who was also a Miss Korea contestant; there is a photograph of them together on the internet cheering during one of the 2002 World Cup Soccer games that was held in Korea.
