Subjective, promotional, "peacock" language has been toned down or removed.Schneile (talk) 14:23, 7 October 2013 (UTC)schneile[reply]

NOTE: We would like to add back to the article the image that was removed under Speedy Deletion as follows: "Deleted image removed: Willis Resilience Expedition". Reason: this image is not a blatant copyright infringement. Rather, Willis Group commissioned the design of this artwork, owns it, and as the sponsor of the expedition, has approved its use in connection with the expedition under a free license. I do not work on weekends so I was unable to contest the nomination before the image was removed.Schneile (talk) 14:23, 7 October 2013 (UTC)schneile[reply]

Just what free license was used, Schneile? Does it permit re-use for any purpose, including commercial re-use? Does it permit modification by anyone for any purpose? Has it been posted or published with those licenses indicated? DES (talk) 22:35, 9 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the query, DES. I am looking into this further and endeavoring to ensure I have adequate permissions from the artist who designed the graphic.Schneile (talk) 16:17, 10 October 2013 (UTC)schneile[reply]

That is fine, Schneile, we will await your response. Just be sure that "adequate permissions" includes all of the above. Generally a license more or less equivalent to CC-BY or CC-BY_SA is needed. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission where the requirements and the process for recording the license are spelled out in detail. DES (talk) 16:42, 10 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I would appreciate reconsideration of the Wikipedia:NOT#SOAPBOX and Wikipedia:NPOV maintenance tags, as I have made numerous edits since the tags were placed in an effort to address these concerns. (I still do not have an update regarding the image permissions.) Many thanks. Schneile (talk) 16:39, 15 October 2013 (UTC)schneile[reply]

Disclosure[edit]

This article was contributed by an employee of Willis Group, on his/her own time, solely to foster knowledge about Parker Liautaud as leader of The Willis Resilience Expedition and the elements contributing to its importance (the science, world record attempt, and communications technology). The employee was not asked to contribute the article as part of his/her employment. The employee has no relationship with Mr. Liautaud and has never met or communicated with him. It should be noted that Mr. Liautaud began planning this expedition as early as December 2012. Mr. Liautaud did not approach Willis or the other supporters about the expedition until spring of 2013.

Willis' sole purpose in supporting Mr. Liautaud in this expedition is to further the scientific endeavor--a major survey of the South Pole--which will produce data that will be used to inform catastrophe models to better mitigate and manage natural and man-made disasters. The expedition builds on many years of significant investment in climate science, earth observation and natural hazard risk assessment by the Willis Research Network (WRN) in partnership with academic institutions around the world. As stated in City University London's Wikipedia article (emphasis added), "In September 2006, City University joined the Willis Research Network (WRN), a major, long-term partnership between leading international scientific institutions (including the universities of Bristol, Cambridge, Durham and Imperial College London) and the global insurance broker, Willis Group Holdings. The purpose of the network is to evaluate the frequency, severity and impact of catastrophes such as hurricanes, earthquakes, floods and terrorism." The list of public science and academic institution research facilities in this research network may be accessed here.

In consideration of the above disclosure, it is requested that the Wikipedia:COI maintenance tag be removed.Schneile (talk) 14:33, 17 October 2013 (UTC)schneile[reply]

If anything the above comment would make me even stronger in favor of keeping the COI tag. Sulfurboy (talk) 12:45, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your feedback, Graham. I find this discouraging as the article was written as a biographical entry with a logical and nonpromotional mention of the subject's latest expedition. As stated in the article, the primary purpose of the expedition is scientific research, with a secondary purpose of setting a world speed record. I could not help but be impressed with this young man's accomplishments, so on my own time, I wrote the article and added the disclosure as requested per policy. The same disclosure has been added to the expedition article's Talk page. Schneile (talk) 13:11, 23 October 2013 (UTC)schneile[reply]
