Parsifal videographyParsifal video discography – I think this might be a better name for the following reasons:

  • The term "videography" (in my computer's admittedly American dictionary) is defined as "the process or art of making video films". This was the only listed definition.
  • For "discography", the definition is "a descriptive catalog of musical recordings, particularly those of a particular performer or composer". This could easily be regarded as including both audio and video musical recordings. (And this definition would presumably encompass any recording format, whether cylinders, 78s, LPs, tape, CDs, DVDs, BluRay discs, digital files, or even filmed recordings.) --Robert.Allen (talk) 07:55, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wikipedia has a Category:Videographies which seems at odds with the definition you found and the article Videography. I suggest to avoid the slightly awkward term "video discography" and merge this article into Parsifal discography. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 12:09, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting, this Category:Videographies. Language usage is always evolving, and dictionaries are almost always out of date, so this may well be an example of that. --Robert.Allen (talk) 21:08, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have no overwhelming problem with merging -- audio CDs and DVDs/VHS are combined in other articles. The key point, however, is that information concerning the unique aspects of a film/video not be neglected in a more inclusive listing. Specifically credits for stage direction, which is such a crucial aspect of the film production.Jburlinson (talk) 17:19, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Admittedly, I can't find an appropriate definition of "videography" either. I wondered whether or not to employ the term, but found it was commonly used in a number of other articles to mean "a listing of videos." Still, it bothered me, so I switched the link in the main Parsifal article to say "Parsifal filmography." Does filmography work better? It has a longer lineage.Jburlinson (talk) 17:19, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge with Parsifal discography. Michael Bednarek's suggestion to merge this page is a good one, since these articles are rarely too long and it avoids the issue of the naming. "Filmography" in my mind is associated more with movies and movie directors and actors, although opera videos could certainly also fall under this term. And it is also a good idea to put videos in a separate table that has a column for crediting the artists who contributed to the visual aspects of the production, .e.g., producers, stage directors, video directors, costume designers, set designers, etc. Perhaps most readers would prefer videos to be listed separately from audio recordings in any case. Unfortunately, there are rarely "ideal" solutions that everyone will agree on! --Robert.Allen (talk) 20:19, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Column formats[edit]

Speaking of alternative solutions, I find formatting the cast list horizontally may not really improve the table. In my view what is really needed are line breaks to create the vertical lists we usually use. Also I would change the column label "Stage director" to "Production credits" so that other names (as mentioned above) can be added. Of course, info like "stage director","set designer", etc. would need to be included in the cell, not the heading, since these lists will probably vary, depending on the credits on the video, which are rarely standard. To reduce the number of columns, the "Label" and "Notes" columns might be combined. --Robert.Allen (talk) 20:32, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
