Pat Rooney Sr.[edit]

Ghmyrtle I reverted your recent edits for the simple reason that this Pat Rooney was indeed known as Pat Rooney Sr. during his later career. The New York Times obit spent much time going over the name changes and confusion in overlapping names between father, son, and grandson. For example, he was credited as Pat Rooney Sr in his later Broadway roles and on Broadway cast albums like Guys and Dolls (probably his best known role to today's readers; notice his IBDB bio is titled Pat Rooney Sr.). For this reason, it’s very important to maintain the content on the various names he performed under which included Pat Rooney Jr. in his early career, simply Pat Rooney, and later when his son (Pat Rooney III) began performing, Pat Rooney Sr. To make matters more confusing Pat Rooney III was more often credited on stage as Pat Rooney Jr. Hence the confusion of names between the three men. Feel free to add back content, but you must keep Pat Rooney Sr in this article because of the Broadway cast albums that use that name which are what most people nowadays know him for.4meter4 (talk) 17:12, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think that's fair enough - obviously different sources use different terminology, and what is important to us here is that we try to minimise the confusion. What amazes me is the coincidence that, within a matter of days, both of us decided to start articles on the same, fairly obscure, people. Ghmyrtle (talk) 18:16, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is. I created it and Pat Rooney (actor born 1848) after creating a stub on the Sigmund Romberg musical Love Birds which starred Rooney. I started that to differentiate it from another musical Love Birds because of incoming links going to the wrong musicals. Interesting how confusions of naming often leads to article creations. I'll leave it to you to add back content to this article. Thanks for working on it.4meter4 (talk) 18:29, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was premature in agreeing with you - I simply thought you had corrected my redirects, which was fine. But you have reverted whole chunks of referenced text. I intend to reinstate most of my text, and we can work from there. Ghmyrtle (talk) 19:02, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Thanks again for working on the article. Best.4meter4 (talk) 22:27, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
