docketalarm[edit]

about my edit -- docketalarm is not a good source to use. i understand their business model and it is great, but you get locked out after looking at it five times. that is not good for readers of an encylopedia. Jytdog (talk) 17:35, 10 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough... but if it's the only source available, then isn't it better than nothing? Speedplane (talk) 17:27, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know it is an aggregator. How could it be the only source of anything? If I misunderstand please let me know. Jytdog (talk) 17:31, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The only other source that I know of is on the uspto's website, which is only available through login protected pages. Further, it doesn't have single list of the most recent filings, you need to use their tools to generate that information yourself. Regarding the pay-nature of the site, Wikipedia cites to NYTimes articles all the time, which has a similar paywall (albeit more generous).Speedplane (talk) 17:36, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The NY Times is something almost every major library has. That is very different from a proprietary online service that libraries are very unlikely to subscribe to. If you have something that shows that it is widely available in way other than private subscriptions, that could be persuasive. Further note - WP is WP:NOTNEWS, we are an encylopedia, and we should not be concerned with having a single list of the most recent filings; that is what docketalarm is for, for people who want that service.
