BLP issue

[edit]

I removed the claim that Murphy voted "with Nancy Pelosi approximately 97% of the time" because it is not properly sourced and inherently POV, since voting databases only check against Democratic and Republican standard positions, and the number itself is not sourced anywhere. I don't think it should be added until a reliable third party source can be found. Hekerui (talk) 21:49, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Change article name?

[edit]

There is another Patrick Murphy who is running for Congress in Florida, and while he probably doesn't merit his own article, we should probably change this one to Patrick Murphy (Pennsylvania politician). I don't know how to do that though.... Arbor8 (talk) 21:46, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This other Patrick Murphy has no article but is mentioned in United States House of Representatives elections in Florida, 2012. Before we move anything, we ought to make sure he warrants an article, because merely being a candidate does not mean a person should be included in Wikipedia. I reviewed this website, he is currently running in a primary and I don't see him fitting any of the criteria of WP:POLITICIAN. Just from his autobio there I'd say the mention in the election page is enough until he wins a bid for office. Hekerui (talk) 22:48, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Just to be clear -- I don't think the Florida Patrick Murphy should have an article. He shouldn't. BUT since there is the potential for confusion between him and this Patrick Murphy, I think we should add "Pennsylvania" to the name of this article. Does that make sense? Arbor8 (talk) 14:49, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think so - as Bmclaughlin9 writes we should make disambiguation an issue once there is an article. Wikipedia article titles take confusion among each other into account. Hekerui (talk) 16:28, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No need to change this in anticipation of however many more Patrick Murphy entries may come along. It's the later ones that will need to come up with distinctive names. What matters is having a clear entry on the disambiguation page at Patrick Murphy. I think that looks fine. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 15:56, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
