Needs better sources

[edit]

The info on these patronages is generally correct, but the sources used are at times just hopeless - they are websites that fail WP:RS in a second. I will not bother with the sources here, but LoveofMary if you are to edit other pages, please do not use these types of websites. They fail WP:RS. Thanks. Our Lady of Luján

[edit]

An editor who goes by several aliases claims that a papal bull made the Immaculate Conception patron saint of Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. The burden of proof of this assertion lies on him. If he fails to prove it, he cannot make Wikipedia broadcast his claim. It is up to him therefore to quote the papal text that makes the Immaculate Conception patron of those countries. Perhaps he misunderstood "Beatissimam Virginem Mariam Immaculatam sub enunciato titulo de Lujan nuncupatam triplicis Argentinae, Uruguayanae et Paraguayanae Reipublicae praecipuam apud Deum Patronam declaramus et constituimus". In that phrase, it is as "of Lujan", not as "Blessed", nor as "Virgin", not as "Immaculate" that she is declared principal patron. Pointing to one of the three descriptions used of her as proof that it is her immaculate conception, not Mary under some other aspect, that is declared patron is a particularly weak form of synthesis. Wikipedia accepts only what reliable sources explicitly say, not an editor's unsourced interpretation of a source. Until such an explicit statement is cited, this piece of original research cannot be admitted to Wikipedia. Esoglou (talk) 20:13, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The source is Acta Apostolica Sedis year 1931. Page 156 as declared by by Pope Pius XI dated 8 September which states:

"Argentinae Reipublicae, Itemque Uruguayanae et Paraguarayanae Caelestis Patrona Declaratur Beata Virgo Maria Immaculata, Sub Titulo Nostra Domina Lujan - Ad perpetuam rei memoriam. — "

What makes you think that this heading declares the Immaculate Conception patron rather than Our Lady of Luján (Nostra Domina Lujan)? Esoglou (talk) 20:41, 6 April 2014 (UTC) Blocked sock. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 15:29, 13 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
