I think that this 'Pattison' is M. M. Pattison Muir, although I am not certain. Womble 19:56, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
- There is a mention of "a patent obtained by Mr. Pattison" in a book from 1840 when MMPM wasn't born [1], so no, it wasn't him. His brief biography in another book doesn't mention it either, and covers his other research, which wasn't that impressive, so it would have mentioned something like this.
