Massive Deletion[edit]

Why was so much of this article deleted? Mattcohen1 has said no references, surely the TVNZ bio for Henry is a reputable source for material? Most of what was deleted can be easily verified. I'd guess it's because it's a very favourable sounding biography put forward by his employer, which could arguably give an unbalanced representation, especially given the context that many people seem to think TVNZ shouldn't employ him. I don't personally know much about Paul Henry apart from what I hear every time he upsets people with his comments and if he's done stuff in the past then it makes sense to say so (in neutral language and with good references), but I think it also makes sense to use a source with less conflicts of interest. Controversy last paragraph[edit]

"Following the decision to suspend Henry, it also emerged that TVNZ had continued to promote a recent clip in which Henry referred to New Delhi's chief minister Sheila Dikshit as "the dipshit woman", going on to state that "it's so appropriate, because she's Indian, so she'd be dick-in-shit wouldn't she, do you know what I mean? Walking along the street... it's just so funny!" The video has since been removed from TVNZ's website.[11]"

I think this paragraph only presents the worse of the incident. It seems more like a tabloid wrote it, know what I mean?In reality he was giggling at the obscurity of the name and nto so much attacking Indians as I feel this paragraph makes out. Benner9 (talk) 10:36, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The paragraph representatively quotes the remarks that Henry made in the clip that has attracted attention. I didn't include the quote in the article, but I don't believe it to be excessive. It would be inappropriate if the article then asserted that the quotes exposed Henry to be racist or backward, but as it stands, that isn't the case. Also, even the Wikipedia article says that he's of Indian descent (although his family did live in Fiji from 1911).

Council flat?[edit]

I don't believe any council in Auckland has ever owned any flats but there are Government owned "state houses" built by the government at the time and mostly sold off over the years by the National party of NZ. While were on the subject I believe there was a large percentage of the NZ population that lived in state houses as NZ was considered a third world country at the time all the way up to the late 80's and possibly parts of the 90's. John Key elected in 2008 as PM of NZ is also known to have lived in a state house also.

The council flat was in Bristol - not Auckland. He was born in Auckland. He moved to Bristol with his mother (aged 11), where they lived in a council flat.

First off, apologies, I hadn't seen it in the article. From the confused Kiwi/Australian edits, and the previous revert apparently stating it wasn't in the article, I assumed this was poorly thought out category spamming. I had missed your add in the article, which justifies the cat, so I've added that back.

That aside, it's not being handled correctly in the article. We have a single off-the-cuff remark from Henry, not noted for his serious side; we'd need more context to include. Also, you've accorded it massive weight; if anything, it should be a small sentence in his personal life. Personally, I think we cut until there's more.

Worth noting that he is comfortable with appearing (nearly) naked on television, as I saw this pic on his show (which I think was from a book of his?). So I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was a nudist/naturalist in the usual sense of the word. Bromley86 (talk) 01:39, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
