Speedy[edit]

This player has already been nominated for deletion, and was kept due to him earning the FA Cup player of the round award in 2005. By all means re-nominate, but I don't think he merits a speedy deletion. ArtVandelay13 16:47, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think the guy is probably notable enough for Wikipedia, but the article needs to be renamed, perhaps to Paul Jones (soccer player). His birth year shouldn't be included in the title. Useight 19:10, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have declined the speedy. As a (semi-)professional football player who has played in the FA Cup and received extra attention for it (the award Art mentioned), he meets WP:BIO to such an extent that speedy deletion isn't warranted. If you believe that this article should be deleted, it should be nominated for regular deletion via WP:AFD. If the article is to be renamed, it certainly shouldn't use the words "soccer player." According to the MOS, the national version of the English language should be used, and the sport is called football in England. The birth year in this article title distinguishes this Paul Jones from Paul Jones (footballer). That article could be moved to Paul Jones (Welsh footballer), and this one to Paul Jones (English footballer). Paul Jones (footballer) could then be a disambiguation for the two.
