Anti-vax viewpoint

[edit]

His political opinions probably deserve their own section, but in the meantime, I have reverted the sentence about his latest self-published book to say:

"In 2022, Kingsnorth self-published The Vaccine Moment, a collection of his essays criticising public health mitigation of COVID-19, and espousing an anti-vaccination viewpoint."

A previous editor was correct to note that he does not outright say that nobody should be vaccinated, but the book does basically say that nobody except the immunocompromised should be vaccinated and that anti-COVID measures were driven by the sinister ulterior motives of the nefarious state. In my opinion that makes you an anti-vaxxer, and "espousing an anti-vaccination viewpoint" is the most polite and unbiased way of saying so. Unless we have another generally-agreed upon term for people who draw comparisons between anti-COVID measures and Nazi Germany, which he also implicitly does in the first chapter of that book. Clearly, The Vaccine Moment is a critique of the response to the pandemic rather than the efficacy and safety of the vaccine. The vaccine itself is not the focus of the essays; Kingsnorth notes that he is not against vaccination and that the vaccine is effective.
Generalising the papers as "anti-vaccination", a term that clearly carries heavy connotations, feels dishonest, and I feel the sentence is simply more accurate without the addition.
At the risk of launching an edit war, I'm going to revert the change. Ultimately I think his view on the matter is complex enough to necessitate an extra sentence or two to clarify, and I am open to suggestions. Slamslamslamslamslam (talk) 20:45, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
