Edge Chronicles[edit]

The unanswered questions that have accumulated over time in the Edge Chronicles are as followed:

1. What exactly is the Edge, the edge of? 2. Does sky ever end? 3. What is the race of Quint, Rook, Twig, etc...? 4. What is the cure for stone sickness? 5. Do the Deepwoods ever end?

In this discussion, give answers each of these questions, I want your thories.

This article needs a lot of work[edit]

I've started adding more content and references. This article really needs to be more than just a list of books. Paul Stewart as been well reviewed in the UK and the US, has featured on the bestseller lists in both countries and has won a number of awards - he certainly meets the notability criteria. Over the next month, I intend to add more content.

I notice that fans have started creating a lot of separate pages for characters from the Edge Chronicles, which Paul Stewart co-writes with Chris Riddell. Personally, I think this is unnecessary and would propose bringing them all together under The Edge Chronicles. Any objections? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Plad2 (talkcontribs) 02:27, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've expanded the body of the article and added reliable third party references. Work still needed:
  • source info on:
  • Background (Education, in particular)
  • Earlier novels (pre-collaboration with Chris Riddell)
  • Selection of the Edge Chronicles for two World Book Day Books (Cloud Wolf and The Stone Pilot)
  • USA publishing history
  • Translation history
  • Other work
  • Bibliography needs completing and sorting out Done. --Plad2 (talk) 21:52, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • External links: remove duplication with references
  • Author photo to be sourced and added to info box

Assessment[edit]

As requested at WikiProject Children's literature, I have assessed this article and moved it from Stub class to C class. To improve, I recommend adding more sources wherever possible, and ensuring that the article fully covers all verifiable aspects of the author's life. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 10:40, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Co-authors Stewart & Riddell?[edit]

Knowledgeable editors should try to handle this at once, and consistently, in both biographies Paul Stewart (writer) and Chris Riddell, with some attention to any existing book and series articles too.

I have inserted this preface to the Awards section (which may need update otherwise):

"These three books constitute the Far Flung Adventures series, written by Stewart and illustrated by Riddell."

Here and at the Muddle Earth listing, I have marked the Stewart-Riddell relationship for clarification, and that may need attention in each part of bibliography section 5.4, "Fiction co-authored with Chris Riddell".

This article [a] explains that Stewart and Riddell work together in a sophisticated way and [b] calls Riddell co-author in that subsection 5.4 heading. But [c] our articles on their books identify Stewart as author and Riddell as illustrator.

Awards: Do the Smarties Prizes recognise the book, the author, or the author and illustrator? Eg, did Stewart and/or Riddell win the 2004 prize, ages 6-8? or the book Fergus Crane? --either way, this section needs to explain Riddell's role in the award-winning works specifically

Bibliography: This section includes extreme repetition of dull data but the fact of Riddell's collaboration, either as illustrator or co-author, is practically lost because layout (after the table of contents) does not distinguish the Riddell subsections. Rather than repeat "London: Doubleday" and "New York: David Fickling Books" line by line, it's important to repeat identify Riddell at least in every subsection!

Co-author? Where editors of this article (or Chris Riddell) will make Riddell co-author, some specific documentation is needed. Even if the one-paragraph description of their work is enough to make Riddell co-author, it cannot cover all of their many collaborations at once.
