Discussion

The pronunciation of the name is utterly wrong (I'm argentinian, and spanish is a phonetically written language, so I should know) and I corrected it--Lacrymology 08:42:55, 2005-07-31 (UTC)

correct me if im wrong, but surely being from argentina you would refer to yourself as being Argentine, not Argentinian? I have a few Argentine friends who make it pretty clear that this is the case. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dark wounds (talk • contribs) 15:41, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

uhm.. read the FAQ at simplypaz.com and the old pronounciation was indeed taken from there... I still don't like it at all, and I dont know.. well, anyone's free to change it back, I am actually going to write her (or her webmaster) an email to confirm --Lacrymology 02:19:49, 2005-08-02 (UTC)

the website is down for the most part, and the webmaster's contacts and forums are dead too. I must really insist that some weird thing has happened like their parents having tried to get the "original" pronounciation of her name and getting it quite wrong, that FAQ has been written by an english-speaker who can't pronounce her name. The tilde over the i means that that is the stressed syllabo [sp?] and the old pronounciation stressed the one before that. I know that that is nothing as her name would be said in spanish. Pronounciation

I just met Paz Lenchantin two nights ago at the Brookdale Lodge in the Santa Cruz mountains, introduced myself, toasted to her show and asked her how "she" pronounces her name: "Pawz Lenshawnteen", end of this stupid discussion. She went on to kick ass and crawl around in front of her amp, melting my heart. GB wasn't to bad either. OK, I understand it is me against scores.. but I insist.. paws lay-shawn-tain is not the way the thing is pronounced, at least by people who speak spanish, which, oh my god, is what is spoken where she was born and raised. I DO understand that the for-ages-abandoned FAQ said that thats the way it was pronounced, but that's probably the way her webmaster pronounces it, and most certainly NOT the way she and her father do.

Though "Paz" is a Spanish name/word, "Lenchantin" is not a Spanish surname. Thus, it is not written phonetically and is pronounced as shown on the website "lay-shawn-tain". Beside that, your pronunciation would still be incorrect as "Paz" would be pronounced with an "ah" sound, and the word "pass" has a short "a" sound; also, your pronunciation, "len-cha-n-tin" is also wrong, if "lenchantin" were pronounced "in Spanish", it would probably look more like "len-chan-tin".

This is what I was talking about. Discussion. The "pass" and "ah" problem comes basically from the fact that I don't know how to put the pronunciation in english exactly. Hate that system. I would have liked to put in phonetic symbols but I wasn't sure how that was done.

Also, while Lenchantin might not be a spanish name (where is it from?), neither is my name, but if anything is ever written about me, I would expect its pronounciation to be "neh-me" (me as the "me" in "men" not as in "me, myself and I"), and not "nay-may" as americans would pronounce it if they saw it written (Neme) or whatever the original arab pronounciation was. I think this whole thing goes down to what the heck does SHE (or her family) call herself. I know it would be "chan" and not "cha-n", but an american friend of mine told me that "chan" would have a different pronunciation.--05:41, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

If I'm not mistaken, Lenchantin is a French last name. I agree, with your critcism of the "American" language; I also do not know how to phonetically spell out every sound... in fact I'm sure it's impossible. "Paz" should have a hard accent, which I don't know how to note in English, but "Paws" does a decent job. Anyway, there's no need to argue any more, I think, unless my explanations have been inadequate. Just don't be so condescending, because you could make yourself look silly, especially if you're wrong.

People, people! There's phonetics for some reason. I'll get into this, as soon I come across somebody that can illustrate me in that matter. I'm a big fan from Argentina, and I've also always felt unconfortable with american people not saying her name the right way. In my opinion the last name should no me pronunciated in french, as she doesn't when she introduces herself. Maybe we should ask her, and end with this story. The FAQ itself was created from any articles, media and information I was able to get from Paz herself. Take it at face value, I never mis-pronounced her last name because I never talked to her or about her using her last name so please refrain from the "webmaster mispronouncing because she's american" as this isn't really relevant or 100% accurate. But back on the FAQ issue, it was every bit of Paz information that was availible online at the time that the website was active and Paz had active involvement in what stayed and what didn't, she never really addressed pronunciation. -- Clara Black

Ancestry

Why was it removed that she is of Armenian and French ancestry, her father (Mario Merdirossian) is indeed Armenian (western Armenian to be exact), so why is it removed?T Acamapichtli (talk) 19:03, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

If you know that to be correct and can give a quick source for it, you're certainly welcome to put it back in. A few weeks ago there was a rather sizable mess of this article and though I spent awhile on it and thought I'd gotten every bit of article back to where it was before the dispute started I may have missed a few things. I find it problematic to highlight the ancestry of a non-American individual in a way that suggests European heritage is more noteworthy or interesting. Implicitly suggesting that being Argentinian is insufficient without also emphasizing European roots contributes to a broader issue of Eurocentric biases, wherein diverse cultural identities are overshadowed by an undue focus on European standards 181.30.174.194 (talk) 14:34, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
