There are some major naming and data problems with this one. Many sources identify this as the Peach Island Light, but Chart 19848 shows that this was not built until 1928-1929, and that it was originally named the Peach Island Shoal Light; an 1889 chart, however, already shows a rear range light. I'm letting the 1908 date stand, and sticking with the rear range light ID, but better data would be appreciated. Mangoe (talk) 03:29, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This is being discussed at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2012 May 2#Peche Island Light. The chart from 1921 which you presented there does show a lighthouse on today's position NW off Peche Island, not inside Lake St. Clair. And for that matter, the Lighthouse Friends website is not a reliable source in my opinion and it is outweighed by other reliable sources. Please don't restore the Lake St. Clair reference until you have proper evidence that this is not a lighthouse in the Detroit River. De728631 (talk) 14:52, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The original coordinates provided by the USCG Light List are 42-20-54.450N, 082-56-33.500W, which is a position W to NW off Peche Island inside the Detroit River, not NE off the island, not inside the lake. See Geohack. You must have miscalculated the decimal coordinates in the infobox to end up with a NE position. And as to the chart from 1909 which does not show a lighthouse, the only explanation would be that the original construction date stated as 1908 is wrong. The entry at Coast Guard Lighthouses states explicitely that the history of the station has been researched by a third party ("a volunteer"), not by official authorities. I've now found this chart which explains where all the confusion comes from. It does show a Peche Island Rear Light in the outer head of the River, NE of the island. That's the light you have been referring to, but obviously it's not the one that most sources in the article are dealing with (see coordinates). Therefore I suggest we move this article back to Peche Island Light and maybe create a new stub for both range lights in the approach to the river. I have restored the article to the point that deals with this lighthouse as a range light and I've removed the Light List reference which lists today's Peche Island Light inside the river, including coordinates that don't match the range of lights in the lake. The more I searched, the more sources I found that referred to the lighthouse in the image as Peche Island Range Light, so let's leave it at that. De728631 (talk) 15:40, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
