This should likely be rolled into the Commons-based peer production page or equiv (delete this stub?). KeithHopper (talk) 16:07, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

well, Commons-based peer production is about the term by Benkler it seems. And I think there is more to peer production than what Benkler writes about it. i have doubts that peer production is a new phenomenon. i am just writing something about Communal or Common Eating. History is full of symposiums, banquets and syssitia. Some of them of course were privately organized, but many by a group (e.g. of friends - hence the greek term "filoi" for people doing something together in order to produce a common good) who built up an organisational structure to create the product. To me this just sounds like peer production. what do yous think? -- Torstenphilipp (talk) 16:58, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'd support merge to here, per WP:COMMONNAME, but yes, a merge seems in order. Andy Dingley (talk) 11:30, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
+1 (merge)
I have never heard "peer production" applied to 'symposiums, banquets and syssitia'. "Peer production" is used as an abbreviation for "commons-based peer production" - K (talk) 23:31, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Commons-based peer production and peer production are not exactly the same thing. An example of peer production is, for example, the way YouTube operates; it's a platform that coordinates the activities of individual users who don't have common aims. Commons-based peer production, however, is based on the cooperation of individuals. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.255.164.45 (talk) 16:51, 25 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Both may be based on commons, so the term commons-based peer production is not quite right. Teilolondon (talk) 08:10, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Then examples like Wikipedia and GNU/Linux would be wrong. Merge with cbpp - K (talk) 23:31, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I plan to contribute to this article by adding a couple references and adding to the definition and how it pertains to the new information society. I think Benkler gives a good definition of peer production and perhaps his article ("Freedom in the Commons: Towards a Political Economy of Information" Duke Law Journal 52(6)) and that perhaps this could one reference for the article. SarahJAtk (talk) 21:49, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea. Still merging the article with "commons-based peer production" seems important. I could do the merging after you finish with your contribution. Teilolondon (talk) 06:38, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I edited the article, but decided not to merge. Teilolondon (talk) 06:57, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit looks good, I also added a couple sentences and citations. SarahJAtk (talk) 15:06, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

whoops, forgot to post here before editing for the class. Thanks for putting the banner up. I added the reference section and the second paragraph. — Preceding unsigned comment added by EricaZR (talkcontribs) 02:05, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted a few sentences, added some sentences, and added three citations. I think this article could use a neutral point of view on the pros and cons of Peer Production. Elle Sceaux (talk) 20:55, 30 October 2011 (UTC)Elle Sceaux[reply]

I took out a few words that I think helps to make the article more neutral. SarahJAtk (talk) 15:43, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Wikipedians, Mathieu O'Neil here. I am a researcher who has been working on and publishing about this issue for a while. I am also the founder of the online, peer reviewed Journal of Peer Production which has published 13 issues to date on various aspects of peer production. I think it deserves a mention and a link on this page? Wanted to make sure that would be OK before being bold etc. You can find it here: http://peerproduction.net/ cheers M202.142.60.20 (talk) 01:46, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The Journal of Peer Production has very good papers and is a recognized publication in the Information Systems field. I agree with Mathieu that the journal is a valuable addition to the wiki page on peer production. Georglink (talk) 02:42, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
