Merger proposal[edit]

I propose to merge Small penis and Penes (disambiguation) into Penis (disambiguation). I think that the content in the Small penis dab page can easily be explained in the context of Penis (disambiguation), and the Penis (disambiguation) article is of a reasonable size that the merging of Small penis will not cause any problems as far as article size is concerned. Additionally, any outstanding redirects to Small penis should be retargeted, probably automatically by one or more bots, to Penis (disambiguation) as the size of a penis is not unique to human males. • Nominator's Comment Following discussion with SpicyMilkBoy below, and examination of Penes (disambiguation), I have added Penes (disambiguation) to the proposed merge. Doug Mehus T·C 18:46, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment To get the inevitable (bad) puns out of the way, one could also say that the size of the small penis dab page has shrunk to a size that separate dab pages aren't warranted? ;-) --Doug Mehus T·C 19:49, 11 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Not sure about this. In my view, "small penis" is a subtopic of "penis", not a separate entry that needs to be disambiguated. As an example of what I mean, Hair (disambiguation) doesn't have entries for Red hair, Blonde hair, Facial hair, Body hair, and so on. Those subtopics are already outlined in the main article Hair, so adding them to a dab page serves no navigational purpose. In this case, the penis size of humans and other animals is discussed at Penis and Human penis, pages that readers are much more likely to find than Penis (disambiguation). Likewise, my issue with the Small penis dab page is that Micropenis is a subset of small penises and it's already prominently linked in the lead of Human penis size; the other entries are partial title matches. SpicyMilkBoy (talk) 18:04, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
SpicyMilkBoy, I would disagree that's a comparable analysis. Those refer to colours of hair. Micropenis, by contrast, is a significant biological/anatomical abnormality, and thus it's a separate topic. It can either be a separate disambiguation page or it can be combined into Penis (disambiguation), either as a separate list item at the same hierarchical level, or as an indented sub-list item. We have lots of precedents for this. The other dablinks of small penis, if non-qualifying for linkage within the main list of Penis (disambiguation), can be linked as see also references. Doug Mehus T·C 18:24, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
SpicyMilkBoy, we could also merge Penes (disambiguation) into Penis (disambiguation) and identify the plural form, penes, in the disambiguation page lede. I don't think we need separate disambiguation pages for the plural and singular form of penis. Doug Mehus T·C 18:27, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Don't merge Penes (disambiguation), please: that page has three main entries and three additional links in the "see also", and of those six only one is relevant to "Penis". – Uanfala (talk) 10:00, 14 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Uanfala, I'm satisfied with that, then. I'll leave it in the merger discussion as when this concludes, we can update the result on the referenced talk pages. I'd support excluding from the merge Penes (disambiguation). Doug Mehus T·C 16:51, 14 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Exclude Penes, per comments by Uanfala and Doug Mehus, above. I am somewhat opposed to merging Small penis into Penis (disambiguation), as these are not ambiguous terms as such. As SpicyMilkBoy suggests, small penis is a sub-set of penis. I would rather redirect Small penis to Micropenis, and perhaps add a hatnote there using {{Redirect}} if such is necessary. (Note that Micropenis links to Human penis size in the lead section.) Cnilep (talk) 02:39, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Cnilep, the problem, though, is micropenis is a specialized human abnormality that results in an abnormally small penis. Moreover, there are no defined parameters on what constitutes a "small penis." And then, there's the problem that human males aren't the only mammals with penises; thus, that's why disambiguation is preferred, to include the reference to penis, which covers all males. I have no problem with excluding Penes (disambiguation), but would be basically opposed to retargeting to micropenis. Doug Mehus T·C 02:47, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree that Small penis shouldn't redirect to Micropenis. IMO, it should redirect to Human penis size instead. The dab page serves no navigational purpose that isn't fulfilled by that article, which contains a link to micropenis in the lead and a hatnote about penis size in other animals. Human penis size is pretty obviously the primary topic for "small penis", as opposed to animal penis size, and micropenis isn't a separate entity from "small penis", but a subset of it, so I see no need for a dab page. SpicyMilkBoy (talk) 14:44, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
SpicyMilkBoy, But the problem is, we can't say human penises are the primary topic, and this is one of those exceptions, I think, where we need to invoke WP:IAR if not just WP:COMMONSENSE because animals don't use Google; they don't search for information on their sexual organs. Thus, how can we assess, adequately, which is primary topic (if we can at all)? Even if you include veterinarians and related medical professionals doing searches about animal penises, they will be outnumbered by those doing searches on human penises. Thus, the results are skewed unless we significantly overweight the animal-related searches. Doug Mehus T·C 16:39, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I would, however, support a retitling of Human penis size to Mammal penis size, to include content on the penis sizes of other mammals, at which point we could retarget small penis there instead. Doug Mehus T·C 16:46, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think we should decide what the primary topic is based on what people actually search for and not what animals would theoretically search for if they could use computers. SpicyMilkBoy (talk) 18:52, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose both. Oppose Penes per Uanfala above. Oppose what would effectively be a redirect of Small penis to Penis (disambiguation), which would be distinctly less helpful to the reader than the status quo. My opinion, therefore, is to leave it alone. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 16:03, 22 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
