Two Perth Glory Youth Articles

[edit]

The Perth Glory Youth Team are playing in the winter months in the NPL-WA, and in the summer months in the Y-League. It is definitely the same team - squad is nearly identical apart from a couple that are no longer youth, plus Ryan Edwards back to Reading FC, and Danny de Silva off to AS Roma; although there will be different restrictions for some additional overage players who are allowed to compete in the Y-League. Matilda Maniac (talk) 01:12, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Then maybe appropriate to merge/redirect w/ Perth Glory FC (NPL)? Unclear which article has the better claim to legitimacy but seemingly shouldn't be two separate articles. The team plays as "Perth Glory FC" so seemed like the other was maybe more appropriate? Some good arguments can be made either way. Macosal (talk) 14:19, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I think a merger is the way to go. I had previously started a discussion on the talk page of Perth Glory FC (NPL), however this was deleted last week : (talk page deleted in error) by User:Hack ; in that discussion I recommended a merger or deletion. I have already made a bit of a start by copying the more relevant data across to the Perth Glory Youth article, including the Squad List. I have never done formal mergers or requests for speedy deletion or suchlike before, and was hoping to get some debate started with a view that someone more experienced would take over (I'm not as bold on Wikipedia as I should be yet !) . Matilda Maniac (talk) 07:57, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The talk page was speedy deleted as per your request, despite your claim that you were going to ask for an AFD. Hack (talk) 08:29, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, that's my inexperience shining through. I put the request to delete the Article on the talk page, it has been interpreted as a request to delete the talk page, which wasn't my intention. I agree with Macosal that there shouldnt be two separate articles, so suggest that Perth Glory FC (NPL) is speedily deleted. There are a few other pages that link to it currently, and i can change those links. any other thoughts ? Matilda Maniac (talk) 01:03, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe a merge/redirect would be more useful than deleting the other page? There are a fair few (35) articles that link to the other page, plus maybe helpful in redirecting people searching for the page. Macosal (talk) 00:56, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
They're a separate structure with different eligibility rules. The NPL setup is made up of eight teams, the highest of which plays in a semi-professional state competition. The youth team plays in an amateur national competition. If you're going to merge, the title needs to change as there is no team called "Perth Glory FC Youth". Hack (talk) 01:06, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely see what you mean. The two could probably be combined somehow along the lines of "XXX FC reserves and academy" (obviously would need to be appropriately named) which can be seen for other clubs. Macosal (talk) 11:38, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A separate, specific non-free usage rationale is required for the use of this file in this article per WP:NFCC#10c, otherwise the image can be removed per WP:NFCCE. All that really needs to be done is to add an appropriate non-free a rationale which complies with all 10 of the non-free use criteria specified in WP:NFCCP to the file's summary. This can be easily done and I'm happy to do so, but I'm not sure if this logo satisfies No. 17 of WP:NFC#UUI. Can anyone clarify whether this is the official logo of the Perth Glory FC Youth team and provide a link to a website which shows this? If it is not the official logo, it cannot be used in this article and a replacement will have to be found and used instead. Thanks in advance. - Marchjuly (talk) 01:02, 20 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 29 March 2016

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: No consensus to move. Number 57's comment that a wider conversation at WT:FOOTY is needed for WP:CONSISTENCY reasons seems valid. @Hack: I suggest you start a wider discussion there, if you're keen to pursue this. Perth Glory FC YouthPerth Glory FC (youth) – Parenthetical disambiguation. Youth is not a proper noun in this instance. The team competes in the National Premier Leagues and the National Youth League as Perth Glory FC. I'm not disagreeing with you, but you might want to ask about this at WT:FOOTY. This seems to be the naming convention being used for all NYL youth teams (see National Youth League (Australia)#Clubs) and there may be a specific reason for it. -- Marchjuly (talk) 03:03, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
