Wikipedia article mentioned during Roast of Justin Bieber on Comedy Central

On March 31, 2015, Comedy central broadcast a special titled Roast of Justin Bieber hosted by Kevin Hart. One of the "roaster" participants was Pete Davidson. He was introduced by Kevin Hart this way: "Our first roaster is Pete Davidson. Now, he is the newest member of Saturday Night Live. This introduction is way longer than his Wikipedia page! Guy from New York, it's Pete Davidson". You can hear the quote starting around 1:45 here. Interesting enough, the article was quite short and looked [1] like this] at the time of the statement. Looking at his Wikipedia page now, it looks quite more comprehensive. So thanks to all those who pitched in with newer details to add to the page, some even on March 31, the day the piece was broadcast, proving how dynamic Wikipedia can be. werldwayd (talk) 20:27, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

Need for Weed

Davidson said in an article to High Times magazine on September 30, 2016, that in order to cope with Crohn's disease, he must use weed. Diagnosed at 17, he smokes weed before a show for Saturday Night Live to stay out of pain. In the article, Davidson he does get a "little offended when people assume he's just a pothead who sits around watching cartoons." http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/pete-davidson-medical-marijuana-helps-perform-article-1.2813356 Emily Townsend (talk) 21:33, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

How do you change the celebrity image

I read a discussion where a person wanted to update the picture. Please i'm desperate because have alot of celebrity images Sibudaqueen (talk) 15:23, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

@Sibudaqueen: 1.) you need to make sure the images have the correct license, 2.) you upload them to Commons, and 3.) you can use them here on the English Wikipedia or any other WMF project. If you need more help, please let me know. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 17:03, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

Engagement

@Abbyjjjj96: RE your reversion of my edit: this is basic English grammar—see Indirect speech.

When writing reported speech, you either directly quote the speaker, in which case the quoted text could be in the present tense:

On June 20, 2018, Davidson said, "I am engaged to Ariana Grande."

Or you indirectly quote what he said, in which case both verbs are in past tense:

On June 20, 2018, Davidson confirmed that he and singer and actress Ariana Grande were engaged to be married.

We don't have an appropriate direct quote from Davidson, so the first form is not an option. If you don't like the second option ("were engaged"), then how about a simple statement in the present tense:

Davidson is engaged to be married to singer and actress Ariana Grande.

Phlar (talk) 01:14, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

My mistake. The edit you made didn't sound grammatically correct to me but I see that I was wrong. Thank you for explaining! I will revert my edits on both articles. —Abbyjjjj96 (talk) 12:08, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

I represent Pete Davidson and he would like to have the main picture (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Davidson#/media/File:Pete_Davidson_in_2013.jpg) on the page changed to this http://www.zimbio.com/photos/Pete+Davidson/Vulture+Spot+Sundance+DAY+4/B9R5ns0mIwK. Thank you! 67.90.182.200 (talk) 15:15, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

Sounds good. What we need is that photo to have an explicit license that allows it to be shared. That would usually be CC BY 4.0 but there are other options, too. It looks like the image you linked is from Getty Images and they probably won't change the copyright status. If you want to discuss this further, you can post to my talk page or email me. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 16:04, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

Change "Michael" in name to "Waters", which is Pete's real middle name, and mother's maiden name. Itsallyourfaultomg (talk) 01:00, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. We actually have a source for the middle name "Michael". If you have a reliable source that says that his middle name is actually "Waters" lets's see it. Meters (talk) 01:20, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

Relationship

There has been some discussion of Davidson's relationship status on SNL which has prompted Vladulienka0501 to add a mention of it to the "Personal life" section of the article. Searching on Google News I can not see a source of his girlfriend's name which satisfies the sourcing requirements of the policy on writing about living people, which states ...material should not be added to an article when the only sourcing is tabloid journalism. The source being suggested is the Daily Mail, which is explicitly deprecated: see this RFC. When I looked earlier CNN were running the story but without the name, which in my opinion suggests that we should not include it either. In my opinion this can wait until a more reliable and less gossipy source covers the relationship. Wham2001 (talk) 22:48, 28 December 2019 (UTC)

Wham2001, Sounds good to me. I'm in favor of just removing these sections entirely. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 23:45, 28 December 2019 (UTC)
Kaia Gerber just turned 18 three months ago. Why anyone would think this “relationship” is at all serious on the calibre of what is added to Wikipedia is nonsensical. But people want to turn this page into a tabloid. Yes, due to his choice in women his dating life has become fodder. We had to fight tooth and nail to include Ariana Grande on here and the same scrutiny should be given to all further relationships—least of all one that started mere weeks ago with a barely legal model. Only reason it’s even news is literally because of gossip about an alleged breakdown at her house or something where her parents got involved. Trillfendi (talk) 04:29, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

here is people magazine as a source... people is a source on Kaias wikiside already, so I hope it will be enough also for Pete. I will do no changes on his wikiside, because some users threatened me, to block me here on wiki:

https://people.com/tv/pete-davidson-and-kaia-gerber-spotted-holding-hands/ Vladulienka0501 (talk) 18:41, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

@Vladulienka0501: What do you mean that someone threatened you? ―Justin (koavf)TCM 18:48, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
@Vladulienka0501: People is generally held to be a reliable source; see the entry here. The problem in this case is that the source does not say that they are in a relationship – in fact it very carefully avoids saying that. It says that they were seen holding hands in public, which is not the same thing. Unless we have a reliable, secondary source that explicitly says that they are in a relationship then it is a violation of the Wikipedia policy on writing about living people for this article (or the article about Kaia Gerber) to state that they are. Wham2001 (talk) 19:57, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

ok, here you can see article, where people wrote: that Pete is her boyfriend: https://people.com/style/cindy-crawford-kaia-gerber-arrive-lax-after-pete-davidson-rehab-concern/

if this is not enough, Im done with this theme... Vladulienka0501 (talk) 20:50, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

Vladulienka0501, Yes, that would be a reliable source that would establish that they were in a relationship. Can you answer my question from before, please? ―Justin (koavf)TCM 21:01, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
I would personally choose not to include the story based on that source, on the basis that the whole thing is flash-in-the-pan gossip, but I agree with Koavf that it satisfies the minimum requirements of policy. Wham2001 (talk) 21:37, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

SNL Controversy

User:koavf Why did you removed content I added under controversy? Davidson, a current member on "SNL" taking negatively about his co-workers in a very public forum, which was widely reported deserves recognition. The statements were very controversial in the way he talked about the other cast members. — Preceding unsigned comment added by The One I Left (talkcontribs)

The One I Left Because you didn't show that there actually was any controversy: you just reproduced some quotes that could have been considered controversial but that's true of a lot of things he's said before about politics or drug use or mental health, etc. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 21:09, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
User:koavf You just admitted that it could be "considered controversial". It's hard to argue that what he said wasn't controversial. It seems like there might be a bias from your end. It was widely reported as a controversial interview at the time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by The One I Left (talkcontribs)
The One I Left Yes, I know that. You haven't shown that there actually was any controversy. I don't know why you're posting this. If it was "widely reported as controversial" than why is it this edit says nothing about actually generating controversy? All you wrote was "He said [x] and [y]" not that anyone else responded with any outrage or that it caused any kind of change. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 21:52, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

crenshaw section

The section on Crenshaw is a bit biased right now, and needs to be updated in include additional context. The fact that Crenshaw betrayed every American who has served in the armed forces by acquitting the president's incitement of insurrection must be noted. --174.250.50.5 (talk) 10:41, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

He is not Jewish

Davidson is of Jewish ancestry as his father was Jewish. Davidson was not raised in the Jewish faith and is not a Jew by any known definition. Judaism is either the result of being born to a Jewish mother or converting to Judaism under the supervision of a rabbi. Neither of these cases applies to Davidson. He was raised Roman Catholic. Having a Jewish father is irrelevant. (Sellpink (talk) 15:20, 6 April 2022 (UTC))

You are 100% correct. Davidson is not Jewish. He has never identified as Jewish. 108.16.207.46 (talk) 00:10, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

Controversies

Why is his joke about the Catholic Church in "controversies"? As the closing sentence makes clear, it's a wholly accurate statement. Sure, the church didn't like it. I don't think they were terribly happy about the documentaries about the bodies in the septic tank at the Irish orphanage either, but that's not a controversy is it? The Catholic church recognises that it has a massive task on its hands dealing with the legacy of abuse - nearly a quarter of a million victims in France alone - so I suggest this just goes somewhere discussing his style or whatever. Guy (help! - typo?) 20:02, 10 December 2022 (UTC)

Whether or not something is accurate and whether or not it's controversial are completely unrelated. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 21:03, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
