Didn't I hear that he became a lumberjack? --Obi Two Knobi —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.162.184.203 (talkcontribs) 17:23, 2 March 2007

If you did, you heard incorrectly; Ostrum became a veterinarian. — pd_THOR | =/\= | 21:27, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

reconstitution

As a WP:BLP, I culled the article of all unverified information, striking everything uncited and rebuilt it with 100% referencing. The prior version is here for anybody interested in going back to try and reference any of the information that had been there with reliable sources. — pd_THOR | =/\= | 21:27, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

I think I may have been the one who added some of the items (Shaker Heights, Malvern elementary school, etc.) but they are based only on personal experience, not on published sources (Peter and I were in the same class at Malvern in Shaker Heights; I still have the Byron Junior High School student directories, and his picture is right there--looks like he returned to Byron after the year making the movie). So I can corroborate some information if someone else can find it in print, but so far I haven't seen anything. Thanks, Stuart H. Alden (talk) 12:29, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Charlie-era Peter and modern photo??

Can't we get some photos for this article? A photo of Peter back during the filming and a more current one (of which there are a handful on the net) need to be added to this article. --98.232.161.232 (talk) 05:56, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Nothing in the article warrants illustration using non-free content in contravention of WP:NFCC#1. I keep an eye out for libre-licensed media (just checked Flickr the other day), but haven't found anything yet. If you find or know of some, feel free to either upload it yourself, or ask for help in doing so. — pd_THOR | =/\= | 07:06, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
I added a picture, but remove it if you want. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DrStrangelove64 (talkcontribs) 02:01, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
The problem with using a WWATCF image is that the article has no critical commentary on Dr. Ostrum's appearance in the film; there's nothing descriptive of Ostrum's performance that requires illustration (WP:NFCC#8). We can't use a later image of the good doctor because it's possible to make a libre-licensed image from this living person (WP:NFCC#1). I've tagged File:Charlie bucket 26 golden ticket.jpg with {{no rationale}} and {{replaceable fair use}} per my above. — pd_THOR | =/\= | 06:36, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
How about this one? [1]--DrStrangelove64 (talk) 16:17, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
At the bottom of the page is this copyright notice: "©2006-2010 FamousWhy.com all rights reserved". To illustrate Dr. Ostrum, we need a photo that's either public domain, Creative Commons-licensed, or something similar. For example, if Flickr had any appropriately-licensed photos, they would show up in this search.

The problem is that Dr. Ostrum is a private veterinarian in a small town in northern New York. Though he is alive and available to take pictures of, he doesn't make many public press appearances, and those that he does make are going to be copyrighted the entity that publishes them. I'll work on this some this weekend and see what I can do. — pd_THOR | =/\= | 17:09, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

DOB citation

Connormah (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) added a citation to the website Family Tree Legends for a DOB in this article. Because I was unfamiliar with this source and wary of using it, I took it to the reliable source noticeboard where a discussion is taking place; interested editors may comment there. I have left a message on Connormah's talk page along these same lines. — Fourthords | =Λ= | 19:01, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Infobox items

Regarding the summary for this double reversion—"having acted once as a child does not make ones occupation 'acting' any more than working at McDonald's for a year makes one a 'chef'": while that is literally true, there is a question of notability. Mr. Ostrum has a Wikipedia article not because he's a veterinarian but because he starred in a major motion picture. I added the wording "former actor" [emphasis added here] because people who don't read the article carefully keep changing the year in the infobox, and I figured having dual years and dual occupations might solve that ongoing problem. I certainly don't feel strongly about it, but I note my reasoning here in the hope that someone will think of a more elegant solution. (Truth be told, working at McDonald's for a half a century wouldn't make one a chef, but I guess that's neither here nor there.) Rivertorch (talk) 04:11, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

I smiled and chuckled at your McDonald's/chef observation; you're obviously correct. Upon reflection, as well as a review of template:infobox person, I suppose I don't object to its inclusion. Do you mind if I format it as two separate lines, though? I.e.

Actor
Veterinarian
1971
1984–present

I feel that would better illustrate that they're two distinctly different periods and things. — fourthords | =Λ= | 22:39, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
That seems like a better way to do it. Rivertorch (talk) 04:25, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

DOB again

LordAnon of Essex (talk · contribs) is trying to help out by providing sourcing for Ostrum's DOB. Unfortunately, neither the IMDb nor "celebritynetworth.com" meet muster as a reliable source. I've tried to find one for this article since first writing it, but have never come up with anything that's reliable enough for a biography of a living person. If anybody watching has anything more specific and reliable, please chime in here. — fourthords | =Λ= | 18:48, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
