Cornell[edit]

Just wanted to get opinions on Peter Pringle's relationship to Peter Cornell. Todd Canton states that Peter Pringle was known as Peter Cornell when he wrote several songs for Anne Murray. This rings true as album credits are all to Peter Cornell whereas Wikipedia eg on Honey, Wheat and Laughter credit Peter Pringle. BMI http://repertoire.bmi.com (search for Peter Pringle) lists those songs under PRINGLE PETER J CORNELL, also confirming that Peter Pringle is Peter Cornell.

I'd like to acknowledge that Peter Pringle was once Peter Cornell within the article. Since he's a living person, I thought that first I should reach out and see if people more familiar with this person had more info. I think what would help in terms of adding this information properly is a source that clarified whether Pringle is his real birth name and Cornell a pen name he used for the songwriting, or Cornell is his real birth name and Pringle was a stage name he used for performing. Canadianbands.com is not a reliable source at all. For added bonus, while I do see the blurb that you're talking about, it's in a sidebar, while his actual full biography on the same site says nothing of the sort. So no, our article is not going to claim any such thing about him without a much better source for it than that. For starters, if he's really Anne Murray's brother, then why does his entry in The Canadian Encyclopedia say that his songs got passed on to Anne Murray through Brian Ahearne (as opposed to just "hey sis, I just wrote a song, wanna hear it?") Plus, it is true that Anne Murray had a brother named David — but if David Murray and Peter Pringle were the same person, then how come David Murray was a nephrologist in St. John's who died last year per this obituary, while Peter Pringle is a musician in Montreal who's still alive?

Also, please stop adding Canadianbands.com as an external link to musicians' or bands' articles — it is not appropriate for that use, because it's neither a reliable source nor an "official" site of the artist. And by the same token, incidentally, The Canadian Encyclopedia is not for use as an "external link" either — it's for use as footnoted referencing for content in the article body, and does not belong in the external links section. The Canadian Encyclopedia says 1945, and you haven't provided this "other online article" at all in order for anybody to check whether it's a reliable source or not. So it's 1945 until proven otherwise. Bearcat (talk) 11:32, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
