Post-1984 playing career[edit]

The article states: "From 1984, Thompson's opportunities as a Liverpool player were diminishing, with Hansen now being more regularly partnered at the back by the younger Mark Lawrenson. Liverpool won the title, League Cup and European Cup in this year, but Thompson did not qualify for a medal in any of these successes." But surely Thompson moved on to Sheffield United in 1984 so this section seems bizarre. It needs clarification.Shortspend (talk) 08:33, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Place of Birth[edit]

The article states that Phil Thompson was born in Kensington, Liverpool. I know for a fact that he was born in Kirkby, Merseyside. I can't reference this as my reason for knowing is that my family knew the Thompsons, and thus new that Phil was born in Kirkby and lived there. I have corrected this again, but it seems to be being changed back by someone. How Wikipedia works is that anything we include, particularly about living people, should be verifiable with reference to a reliable published source. What individual editors know for a fact (even when they're right) isn't good enough. What you need to do is look on the internet for a reliable published source that confirms Mr Thompson's birthplace as Kirkby, and then add a link to that page between "ref" tags after his birthplace in the article, like this:

Thompson was born in Kirkby.<ref>url of link</ref>

It shouldn't be difficult to find a suitable source: player profiles on the Liverpool F.C. website or on LFChistory tend to include places of birth. hope this helps, Struway2 (talk) 08:02, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
