Council members without articles

[edit]

Seven of the seventeen council members do not have articles about them. Can someone please add stub articles about them? --DThomsen8 (talk) 13:26, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I did them all. Now for photos. --DThomsen8 (talk) 19:56, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New City Council for 2012-2016

[edit]

When the results of the November 8, 2011, general election are final, I will prepare a new table listing the members. Several are new members, and we will need articles about them. The new council will be sworn in on January 2, 2012. --DThomsen8 (talk) 01:05, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Should every Philadelphia City Council person have a Wiki page? Many have not been updated in 10+ years. Nnev66 (talk) 18:13, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Nnev66 it's a large city and the actions of these councilmembers impact many people. which ones haven't been updated in 10+ years? Narsk (talk) 15:06, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like Average Pennsylvanian made some updates since my original message but then deleted their account... The Cindy Bass page needs an update and Draft:Anthony Phillips (politician) (which I helped edit) looks ready to re-submit (am waiting for Arjsd to comment). Looks like someone attempted to make one for Jim Harrity but it was deleted. Jeffrey Jones Jr. is brand new so make take some time to get enough coverage of him to be notable enough. Nnev66 (talk) 00:44, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nnev66, I am a fairly infrequent Wikipedia editor so your edits slipped by me, but they look good. Regarding resubmitting, I'd be happy to resubmit. Personally I thought it was clear from the initial submission that the subject met the requirements of WP:NPOL, but hopefully the additional edits make that even more clear. Arjsd (talk) 01:22, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And now it's officially resubmitted. Arjsd (talk) 01:24, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think the page was on the line before although IMO showed more notability than pages for council members Mark Squilla, Quetcy Lozada, Brian J. O'Neill, or Nicolas O'Rourke. Phillips has had some accomplishments since then which have been reported in The Philadelphia Inquirer and CNN so hopefully that will help. Also, he replaces and was mentored by the current mayor - I think that adds to notability but we'll see what the reviewers think. I'm trying to understand the reviewer process, where someone crosses Wikipedia's notability line, and how pages are normalized relative to each other. Nnev66 (talk) 21:33, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

it is to take effect in 2016

[edit]

It's 2018.Xx236 (talk) 12:53, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's 2024, and with Dthomsen8 passing it seems this effort does not have a leader. Nnev66 (talk) 16:22, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

City Council 2022-2027

[edit]

Bringing discussion down to a new section. Looks like Narsk, Phillypaboy123, and Arjsd have created Philadelphia City Council member pages in the past couple of years. I did some edits on Arjsd's page Draft:Anthony Phillips (politician) which has been re-submitted for review. Regarding Philadelphia City Council member pages, User:Average Pennsylvanian made some recent edits in mid-late March but then deleted their account. It looks like the Cindy Bass page needs updating. Maybe also Curtis J. Jones Jr.. Did one of you do one for Jim Harrity? It appears to be deleted but I think there's enough out there to start another one. Also, Quetcy Lozada has a "notability" template on it so should be updated if possible. I'm thinking about doing a page on councilmanic prerogative but may be a while until I have time. Nnev66 (talk) 23:55, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Nnev66, I've been trying to add harder to find info like their bios and birth dates. I've just started my Wiki account and am working thru how the editing process works, so apologies if it appears I deleted my account haha. As a native Philadelphia (area) native this was my way of familiarizing myself and putting some needed info out there.
I'm definitely interested in adding info for these councilmembers since many of them definitely fit the notability guidelines, but it's not a priority for me atm, since the info can be found pretty easily (imo) on newssites, archived newspapers, and such. My main goal for now is gathering data from my university databases before I lose access, so don't expect more from me other than a few things here and there for now. Update (Aug 28, 2024): Wanted to let folks know where things stand regarding Philadelphia City Council member pages and related topics. Arjsd's page Anthony Phillips (politician) was accepted into the mainspace. I've just created one for Jeffery Young Jr. which may take some time to get reviewed given the article backlogs but it is up for now. A few days ago I pinged the closer of the Jim Harrity AfD discussion hoping to get the draft re-instated. Phillypaboy123 had participated in that discussion and I suspect helped create the page. I'll try again to find someone who might allow it to be re-drafted so we can improve it rather than starting from scratch. I've been adding some information to other council member pages as well including Quetcy Lozada and Cindy Bass. It would be good if others take a look to make sure content seems right - I know more could be added. I've also gone back to past council members like Joan L. Krajewski and will work on these as time permits. Finally, instead of creating a new page for councilmanic prerogative I created a subsection under the council page. cc: Average Pennsylvanian, Coemgenus, Narsk who are folks from original thread and or helped create related content so they can at least see this message. Nnev66 (talk) 17:38, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Nnev66 thanks so much for your efforts on this and keeping us all posted. I'll start filling out some other councilmember pages as time allows. and feel free to DM me if there's a future AfD discussion happening. We fought off one previously for CM KGR Narsk (talk) 00:13, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, that's good to know. For now, looks like all current Philadelphia City Council members have pages and notability issues have been addressed. Nnev66 (talk) 22:46, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for all your efforts! My goal is to start working on older Philly election results and get more years looking like the 1959 Philadelphia municipal election page + update those maps, with adding more city council election pages as well. Been gathering as much info from past Inquirer issues though most of those are incomplete results, so someday I'll be contacting the Philly board of elections to see what they have on file Average Pennsylvanian (talk) 06:58, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Update #2: Feedback about the AfD'd Jim Harrity page was that there was only one sentence that said he'd been elected to the council which is why it was deleted. So I wrote a new Jim Harrity page, submitted it today and it's already been reviewed. I recommend for future council member pages to wait until there's enough information to write a few sentences about the council person's notability before publishing a Wikipedia article about them, i.e. a stub that only says that the person was elected will not pass review.
I'm thinking about writing a section or perhaps page about Philadelphia Democratic ward leadership - is anyone interested in this topic? Also at some point will create a page for Margaret Tartaglione - her name now directs to her daughter Christine Tartaglione but there is plenty of coverage of Marge in her own right.
