Hi, i'm a first-timer just learning the ropes. I just created a page about my music, under the page name Phillip Bimstein, and when I checked it there was a notice for Speedy Deletion, apparently because it's similar to another web page, and there was worry about copyright infringement. However, the other page that it is similar to contains material which I provided to that page; the Mountain West Center recently presented the premiere of a work of mine, and has been a partner of mine in a project, and therefore asked me to provide bio material to them. The bio material is similar to what I provided Wikipedia just now. So it is not a copyright infringement as it is my own material (I wrote it).

Is this sufficient information to fix this problem and remove my Speedy Deletion candidacy? Please let me know what else I need to do.

Hi Phillip - it's good to hear that this isn't a copyright violation, as that's a much more serious problem for a free encyclopedia. However it is generally frowned upon (though not forbidden) for authors to write their own biographies here. You can see, I'm sure, the spiral of nonsense that could occur if someone says that something is true because they wrote it on another website!

Of course, I'm not accusing you of any fabrications, just clarifying that it is a concern that Wikipedia deals with on a daily basis. You mentioned that you were mayor twice - is there any external, reliable sources for this that you can point us to? Any references for your music being eprformed in major venues? Hi Nae'blis - thank you for your reponse, Yes, I agree that nonsense could occur from people submitting their own bios. I wouldn't have done it except that someone encouraged me to do so. I only pasted my "official" bio, which others have used in some form (I didn't mean that I wrote it ON that other website; I meant that I submitted it for them to put on their website only when they asked for my information, to help promote a concert. That happens a lot.)

I've grabbed a few links which refer to my being mayor, as well as some which refer to venues where my music has been performed. Please note that some of these references come from NPR, PBS, various papers, organizarions and the National Park Service. The bottom link from Starkland references several reviews, including Wired and Stereophile. I hope these help. Please let me know if you have other questions.

I'm writing to vouch for Phillip Bimstein, that he is an important composer, and that he should be listed in wikipedia. He was asked to submit his info so that it would be up-to-date and accurate, rather than having it submitted by someone else. I see he has supplied many valid links above. That should be more than enough to establish validity and importance. Please let me know if there is any other info I can furnish in support of his important wikipedia page.
