Aspect ratio of live-action film?

The article notes that the VHS was "letterboxed only in the split-screen sequence", but watching the movie, it looks like the whole movie was composed for Academy ratio (1.37:1). The split-screen sequence may have black bars on top and bottom but also have some on left and right too, so it doesn't count. Removed the following links - they ask (me, at least) for a username and password, and the descriptions make them seem like they would be entirely unnecessary even if they did work.
