We're considering using an image plate on a sounding rocket, but many researchers (including those in our field, who might be asked to review any proposal we submit) are unfamiliar with this technology. Since very little information on image plates could be easily found via Google, and existing Wikipedia articles focussed exclusively on medical applications (and did not employ the term "image plate," widely used in the scientific X-ray diffraction community), I created this short article --- admittedly, just a stub.
