The comments about the composotion of PSII are incorrect. Ref. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez. It's obvious that this paper is in ref to a SINGLE organism, not all photosynthetic life.


Incorrect? Can you please be more specific? Your reference does not go to a specific article.

The introduction is concise and easy to follow. However, the article overall can be expanded upon for clarity and depth. There are two problems in the Water Splitting section. The S State Mechanism described is hard to follow without any prior knowledge. Possibly including details about the period 4-damped oscillation and about the dark stable states may allow for a better understanding of why this trend is observed . It would also be interesting to include double hits and misses causing the trend to disappear after continuous pulsing. The second problem is seen in the beginning of the section. There is no citation for the claim discussing water splitting as one of the most important reactions on the planet or its artificial use for alternative energy. "All other photosystems?"

The article contrasts the charge separation in PSII to the charge separation in "all other photosystems". However, as I understand it, there is only one other photosystem: PSI. @Mover of molehills This seems to be the language used in the Rutherford reference where they say at one point The RCIIs (i.e. those from PSII, purple bacterial and Chloroflexus) also seem to share a common ancestor with RCIs (those from PSI, heliobacteria and green sulphur bacteria). In other parts of their article they are distinguishing PSII from all its corresponding reaction centres in purple bacteria and Chloroflexus as well as from RCI centres. oxidation state of OEC in S4 unclear

Since there is no experimental data on S4, oxidation state assignment is based on DFT entirely. However, there is no consensus whether the dangling Mn atom of the OEC is in oxidation state +4 or +5 before oxygen formation as neither nucleophilic attack or radical coupling mechanism can be conclusively be ruled out. 2003:F6:A720:BD00:2A2C:2AB0:4D9B:2945 (talk) 14:42, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
