Plot[edit]

Hey I have an idea why doesn't someone who has seen this movie write a plot summary because currently all there is a tiny summary. This is Wikipedia we have to have all the info. So along with updating box office figures let's write a plot. Broncosman12 (talk) 17:57, 22 May 2015 (UTC)Broncosman12[reply]

Dwpaul, why did you revert my edit? It was not vandalism, it more accurately reflects the plot. I read was there, thought it was off, saw the movie again, and confirmed my suspicions. Theonlytruemathnerd talk to me 21:02, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Because "because he doesn't like it when people can do what he can do" is about as clear as mud, hence not an improvement over "since he feels he could do the same" which is much more clear (not to mention concise). Dwpaul Talk 21:07, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fat Amy's last name[edit]

In that news broadcast it presented Amy's name as Patricia (Fat) Amy, therefore, implying that her name is Patricia Amy. Should we consider it to be this until stated otherwise? Scream4man (talk) 01:58, 23 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ensemble cast[edit]

Part one maybe just so qualified as ensemble cast but where in part 2 does someone see an ensemble cast? Can we have a source for that? --92.202.82.242 (talk) 21:14, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Off-topic chat[edit]

Das Sound Machine The German language knows three articles: der (m), die (f), das (n). 'Das' Sound Machine sounds weird, because if you want to combine a German article with an English noun, you would prefer to use the correct article. The machine = die Maschine is female, therefore 'Die Sound Machine' would be the correct term. For instance the Ghetto Blaster is also used in German, it's 'Der Ghetto Blaster' as blaster is male in German. --Gunnar (talk) 01:31, 20 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Plot[edit]

Can somebody, anybody, rewrite this atrocious thing? The plot section reads as though somebody with only a cursory knowledge of the English language wrote it. Italia2006 (talk) 00:32, 11 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm no native either, so my style isn't necessarily better. But I gave my best to improve the section, so it is complying with encyclopedic standards. It turned out a lot shorter than I intended :/ So feel free to readd details or embellish the phrasing. --Murata (talk) 09:25, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Budget[edit]

The production budget was previously listed as being $29 million, according to Variety. Box Office Mojo and https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Pitch-Perfect-2#tab=summary the Numbers] both also put the budget at $29 million.

This source was replaced with a source FilmLA.com that gives their own estimate of the budget as being $31 million (PDF, page 10. If this source is credible, then we have a gross budget range estimated at $29-$31 million. Based on what I've seen from other film articles, the consensus seems to be that both figures should be listed.

The study goes on to say that there were incentives of $8.90 million and that $28.8 million was spent in the primary location, Louisiana. The net figure listed in the infobox is not listed and I'm concerned about synthesis. These might seem like simple calculations but page 9 of the document explains the percentages that film can claim for Louisiana and the percentages, caps and bonuses are not as simple as they look. I'm not sure this article should be making those calculations or making any claim about a net budget figure.

I think it would be better if the Infobox mentioned the gross figures and the article text explains that Louisiana offered $8.90 million in incentives, because it isn't actually clear that that was the amount in incentives claimed or that the net budget can be deduced by subtracting that figure from the estimated production budget figure. -- 109.79.102.79 (talk) 19:09, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The article text listed the production budget as $29 million and had not been updated to use the $31 million figure. I have updated the Infobox to include both figures, and I've updated the article text too, with an explanation that Louisiana offered production incentives and write-offs. The wording might be changed to use the terms from the FilmLA report, or perhaps more context added.
I suggest deleting the synthesized net budget from the Infobox. -- 109.79.102.79 (talk) 19:24, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed the synthesized numbers. -- 109.76.133.22 (talk) 12:14, 1 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Racism[edit]

I was looking at the poster and thinking how racist it was that Esther Dean was the only one not standing up, and figured I cannot have been the only one to notice this so I searched to see if any critics had pointed out the racism in Pitch Prefect 2.

The Daily Beast criticized the unfunny racists jokes in the film, and contrasted it with the subverting of stereotypes from the first film. ThinkProgress complained about "race jokes that don’t pay off." IndieWire similarly states "The casual racism, homophobia and sexism might be tolerable if any of it was remotely funny".

So not the racism I was looking for but there were definitely a few complaints about it. The critical response section is unfortunately only an overview at the moment so I will have to take a look at expanding that sometime. -- 109.79.102.79 (talk) 19:48, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The poster currently used in the article only includes the release date at the bottom, suggesting it might be a teaser poster, not the Theatrical release poster.
There is another poster that does include the billing block of text and credits that might be the actual Theatrical release poster.
Can anyone confirm which poster was the theatrical release poster? -- 109.79.102.79 (talk) 19:58, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've been told the poster with billing block is British version of the poster so not an ideal choice either. -- 109.76.133.22 (talk) 12:15, 1 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Poster has been updated, still think it is weird that Esther Dean is the only woman not standing. -- 109.78.240.35 (talk) 19:15, 30 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've expanded the Critical response section to include some actual reviews. I've also included some of the above sources noting that at least some critics complained about the crude racial humor. Maybe this could be a separate subsection but for now I think it works ok as a short paragraph within the critical response section. -- 109.79.175.70 (talk) 21:57, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request for comment: new WikiProject for a cappella-related articles[edit]

Hi there! To any and all interested: I've proposed a WikiProject dedicated to a cappella. This would be a group of editors interested in improving the quality of articles related to a cappella. If you're passionate about a cappella—ranging from the Pentatonix to groups like the Vanderbilt Melodores, or perhaps pop culture representations like Pitch Perfect and The Sing-Off—please check out the proposal and share your thoughts!

Here's a link to the proposal for WikiProject A Cappella.

If you could see yourself contributing to an article related to a cappella (like this one), please consider joining!
