Page move[edit]

@Tassedethe: notwithstanding there are no other articles with this title, I think it's misleading to move this article to the title (novel) without at least a hatnote to the other uses, so I've added a hatnote. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 17:45, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That's entirely reasonable, thanks. Tassedethe (talk) 17:54, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notability[edit]

Not seeing anything in my BEFORE. @Cunard - how about you? Ping before a PROD. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:29, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Piotrus (talk · contribs). Here are some sources about the book Play Dead:

  1. Phillips, Debbie (2010-12-11). "Play Dead Author: Harlan Coben Publisher: Hachette Australia". The Toowoomba Chronicle. Archived from the original on 2023-08-21. Retrieved 2023-08-21.

The article notes: "Harlan Coben's latest thriller is gripping. ... Play Dead is another brilliant piece of writing from a master crime storyteller."

  2. "Play Dead". Publishers Weekly. Archived from the original on 2023-08-21. Retrieved 2023-08-21.

The article notes: "Coben manufactures tension primarily by keeping key details out of his narrative, a method that eventually wears thin. The resolution comes as a relief, with less of a bang than its buildup promises."

  3. Fitch, Katherine (October 1990). "Coben, Harlan. Play Dead. 446p. British American. 1990. Tr $19.95. ISBN 0-94516-728-8. LC 89-38572. YA". School Library Journal. Vol. 36, no. 10. p. 150. EBSCOhost 9010223290.

The article notes: "Coben, Harlan. Play Dead. 446p. British American. 1990. Tr $19.95. ISBN 0-94516-728-8. LC 89-38572. YA-When Laura Ayers and David Baskin secretly marry, it is a match made in heaven. She is a former model turned entrepreneur, while he is the Boston Celtics basketball sensation. But tragedy strikes on their Australian honeymoon when David never returns from a swim in treacherous waters. As Laura struggles with her grief, events unfold to make her question David's mysterious disappearance. She begins to uncover a conspiracy of past and present that slowly destroys all those involved. Coben weaves a delicate web of intrigue that throws alternating sus- picion on each person Laura trusts. A fast-moving thriller with a rapidly twisting plot that keeps readers in suspense until the final page."

  4. Block, Marylaine (April 1990). "Coben, Harlan. Play Dead. British American Pub. May 1990. c.446p. ISBN 0-945167-28-8. $19.95". Library Journal. Vol. 115, no. 6. p. 136. EBSCOhost 9005281893.

The article notes: "Despite its fundamental implausibility, this is an engrossing suspense novel. A star pro basketball player, David Baskin, disappears on his honeymoon, and a mutilated, drowned body is assumed to be his. But strange things are happening to his beautiful widow. And a few months later, a total unknown startles the basketball world with a highly professional style of play exactly like Baskin's. The mystery has its origins in a murder 30 years earlier. The reader's suspicions about what actually happened to Baskin, and about the identity of the murderer, shift as layers of lies are stripped away. Despite the basketball, this is primarily great romantic suspense."

  5. Lauer, Evelyn (1995-09-06). "The plot is thickened with local flavors". The Record. Archived from the original on 2023-08-21. Retrieved 2023-08-21 – via Newspapers.com.

The article notes: "Coben, 33, had his first novel, "Miracle Cure," a medical thriller, published six years ago. His second, "Play Dead," a suspense thriller involving an NBA superstar who contracts AIDS, got national attention because it came out two weeks before Magic Johnson made his announcement."

  6. Indap, Sujeet (2019-03-15). "Harlan Coben: 'I Don't Really Need a Creative Outlet — My Job Is Creative'". Financial Times. Archived from the original on 2022-04-22. Retrieved 2023-08-21.

The article notes: "Coben planned to be a lawyer but deferred law school to take a shot at writing. His first novel, Play Dead, came out in 1990; the advance was $5,000. It was not until his 10th book that he had a bestseller."

  7. Hyman, Vicki (2015-03-25). "All 14 of Harlan Coben's thrillers ranked". The Star-Ledger. Archived from the original on 2023-08-21. Retrieved 2023-08-21.

The article notes: "Even Coben admits his two earliest novels are not very good, but they're not terrible. The writing is clumsy, but you can see the beginnings of Coben's trademark twists, though they're not particularly subtle here. "Play Dead" (1990) involves the disappearance of Boston Celtics star David Baskin on his honeymoon, and shortly thereafter, the sudden emergence of a hot new basketball star with all of David's moves. Hmmm."
