Date[edit]

Trhao: Need to find an accurate date the park started in Brackenridge before relocating.

Trhao: Need some non-copyrighted period images.

Trhao: There were a lot of errors confusing this with a different Playland Park in Houston - all of those errors and confusion were removed. (a number of newspaper articles seem to have copied this article and propagated the error!) Some of the text appeared to be a direct copy from another site and was caught by a bot shortly after I edited it. I removed the directly copied text. I moved the text in the park description about the Phoenix roller coaster to be better located down in the ROcket section. The discussion about Phoenix being a mythical bird had no place or bearing on this article and was removed. The park had it's grand opening at its new location on Alamo in 1943. Before that there is no reference to exactly when or where the park was and started from. It is believed to have started as a small venue in Brackenridge park starting in either 1941 or 1942 before relocating. PTC did not design the park - just the Rocket - that error was fixed. Added mention of Fiesta Texas and Seaworld as these parks ultimately succeeded Playland in San Antonio.

Playland Park didn't get its start in Houston. San Antonio was its only home[edit]

James D There was also a Playland Park in Houston as noted correctly in the article. I attended it in the late 50s. However I don't know which was first, Houston or San Antonio. It was incorrectly stated as Texas first amusement park. Fair Park in Dallas opened in the late 1800s.

Just wanted to review what Wiki-pedia had about Playland Park as it was one of our summer places to go growing up in San Antonio. I was amazed that Wikipedia didn't research or verify the story they published concerning this. You should read the biography of Playland Park and its founder Jimmy Johnson as told by one of his employees, called "Just For Fun: Jimmy Johnson's Playland Park." Houston was never a "home" to Jimmy Johnson's Playland Park. Houston's only tie to Playland was the lumber that was cut in Oregon for "The Rocket" was shipped to Houston to be wolmanized then shipped to San Antonio to be built.

I'm pretty sure Six Flags over Texas was larger than Astroworld and was built in the 60s or 70s — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.209.215.88(talk) 05:29, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Playland Park (Texas)Playland Park (San Antonio, Texas) – There were two(2) Playland Parks in Texas. There are two articles (Playland Park (Texas) and Playland Park (Houston, Texas). The former is actually more specifically located in San Antonio, Texas. Therefore to be consistent with the two independent locations (and articles) this article should be renamed to add the specific location of the park - not just the state. A redirect page exists which should be removed or sent to a disambiguation page between the two Texas parks Trhao (talk) 06:02, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
