I've added citations where I could. Also, I changed "one block" to "one or more blocks", as my understanding is that Mexico City's Plaza de Armas is more than a single block. The entry seems rather barren as it is and, citations being my strong point, I'm not sure how to add a photo. Blind Donkey (talk) 21:33, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted to "one block" (no source found for my claim) and added a schematic for Santiago, 1541. Blind Donkey (talk) 22:25, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Granada? Havana?

[edit]

I removed the following because it seems to mix Havana with Granada. Somebody knowledgeable with the cities should check it.

The Arms Square (Plaza de Armas) in Havana, Cuba was the original entrance to the Alcazaba. It consisted of a series of constructions where different services were carried out for the inhabitants of the fortress. On the right side there is still a big cistern with two sections, which must have been a rainwater cistern but which, in the 17th century started receiving water from the Alhambra's irrigation channel. Near the cistern, to the left of the entrance to the Alcazaba, there is a bath.
In the middle of the square and in part of the wall archaeologists have discovered the foundations of several Arab houses, which were the dwellings of the civil population who worked at the service of the dignitaries and military people who were there. There is of course a big dungeon close to the Broken Tower (Torre Quebrada).

Nomination for de-disambiguation

[edit]

This appears to be a WP:DABCONCEPT. If this is a true disambiguataion page, then per MOS:DAB, it will be reduced to the following:

Plaza de Armas (Literally "Weapons' Square" but better translated to Parade Square or Parade ground) may refer to:

--See also--

Note that there are no extensive ledes on disambiguation pages, no image galleries, and only one blue link is permitted per line. A disambiguation page is purely a navigational device listing article titles that match a particular name; a page that serves any purpose beyond that is no longer a disambiguation page, per WP:DABCONCEPT. bd2412 T 16:19, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • I agree with BD2412 in that this is not a proper disambig in its current form. But should Plaza de Armas be converted to an article, or should we allow Plaza de Armas to remain a disambig, and then create an article for the general concept of "Plaza de Armas"? And if so, how should we qualify the title? --JaGatalk 18:55, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • I don't see why we need two separate pages, as the things that are named "Plaza de Armas" are not so notable that they can't just be listed as examples in the article. bd2412 T 19:31, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

sectioning

[edit]

propose the article be sectioned by historical viceroyalties, as the origins of the plazas date to Spanish colonial rule Arlo James Barnes 20:30, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
