I have a problem with the mention of early Byzantine/Kievan use. Campbell, Marian. An Introduction to Medieval Enamels, 1983, HMSO for V&A Museum, ISBN 0112903851 says clearly that the 15th century Merode Cup is the "earliest known" (p.44) and "only surviving medieval" (p. 38) example. I wonder if there is a confusion about terms here. All "translucent" enamel is not Plique-à-jour by any means - for that it must have no flat backing. Johnbod (talk) 13:40, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Practical example of plique-à-jour[edit]

A gallery of pictures showing how plique-à-jour is made has been removed by Charlesjsharp. He claimed that it was a "poor contribution with commercial link". I will put back the example gallery but remove the link to the website of Coralie Arntz, the goldsmith responsible for the pieces. If you still disagree, could you please explain why you believe the example gallery should not appear on the plique-à-jour webpage? OD 01:52, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

I think the gallery is ok, but 25 pictures is far too many. Please reduce to about 15 - we know what an oven control and bag of pigment look like. Johnbod (talk) 02:01, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
