Merge proposal[edit]

Proposing a merger of the new article CCG Polar Class icebreaker to supplement information already included in the existing Polar 8 article and the CCGS Louis S. St-Laurent article. There is no formal name for the replacement vessel, nor any indication of what class it will be, aside from some media reports incorrectly stating that it is a "polar class icebreaker" (note lower case P is intentional). In all liklihood, given that the 1980s Polar 8 project would cost in excess of $1.3 billion per ship in 2008 dollars, this vessel replacing the Louis will likely just be another "Heavy Arctic Icebreaker". The way I see it, two separate projects merit two separate articles. The articles are related. Fine. That relationship should be expressed through mutual linking. People overlook the power of linking. Readers may want to put one of the articles on their watchlist, and not the other. Merging is a disservice in that case.
Query: You state that media reports that the project will be a polar class icebreaker are incorrect. Could you spell out your reasoning?
I tried to find a definition of what a polar class icebreaker is. I couldn't find one. I found that the Russian icebreaker Kapitan Klep was described as polar class icebreaker. So is the swedish icebreaker Oden. The USCG Healy is described both as a polar class, and not a polar class. So, I'd welcome an explanation as to why the new vessel would need to be described accurately described as a polar class.
